Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts – How You Can Help! In line with our YMCA mission to serve and support our communities, we’re working together with YMCAs across North Carolina to provide relief to those affected by Hurricane Helene. The Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA will continue collecting donations and sending them directly to our sister YMCAs in the mountains—YMCA of Western NC and Williams YMCA of Avery County. These YMCAs will distribute the supplies for local relief efforts, ensuring they reach those in need. The YMCA also has established the Hurricane Helene Relief Fund for financial donations at ymca.org. Donations can be dropped off at any of our six Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA locations. You can also support relief efforts at the YMCA Hurricane Helene Relief Fund at ymca.org. Now more than ever, we are living our mission by coming together to support our neighbors in this challenging time. 💙 Avery County Y's Amazon Wish lists: Hurricane Recovery and Relief Wishlist: https://buff.ly/3U6nVzw Children’s Christmas Wishlist: https://buff.ly/4f0cXDN #HurricaneRelief #YMCA #CommunitySupport #HurricaneHelene #TogetherWeCan #YMissionInAction

Hurricane Relief Update - October 7, 2024: As of Monday, October 7 at 2pm, the NC Emergency Services Department will close the emergency shelter at the J.F. Hurley Family YMCA. Resources are being moved to a long-term shelter located in Hudson, NC. We appreciate everyone who jumped into action and donated to the emergency shelter. At the time of opening, we did not know what would be needed but knew whoever arrived would have very few belongings with them. Your donations ensured their needs would be met. However, the NC Emergency Services Department has identified a new need for long-term care. We want to ensure that all donations received will go to the long-term shelter in Hudson, or other shelters supporting individuals displaced because of Hurricane Helene. All six Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA branches will continue to collect supplies that are sent directly to Western North Carolina. The needs of Western North Carolina will shift over the coming weeks and months, but with the support of our caring community, we will be ready to answer the call. We are WNC strong!

Hurricane Relief Update - Oct. 4, 2024: On September 25, the NC Emergency Services Department activated the J.F. Hurley Family YMCA as an Emergency Shelter. We prepared to receive up to 200 displaced residents from Western North Carolina. To help make their time in the Emergency Shelter as comfortable as possible, we asked our community to help with donations - and our community responded quickly and generously! Because of your kindness, we have everything we need to provide comfort to those displaced from their home. NC Emergency Services Department informs us that we will keep the shelter open until at least October 10, and that we should expect displaced individuals to begin arriving any day. We are unsure of when, or how many, will arrive, but because of your support we are prepared! If our shelter does not need all the donations we received, we will share those resources with other shelters or WNC relief efforts. In addition to opening the Emergency Shelter, all six Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA branches have been collecting donations that will be taken directly to Western North Carolina. We have made multiple supply drops this week across our association and will continue to do so. Please continue to pray for all affected by Hurricane Helene, and all who answered the call to respond. We are WNC Strong!

UPDATE: Due to the overwhelming amount of kindness and generosity from our community, our emergency shelter has no more needs at this time. We are grateful our community jumped into action so quickly, allowing us to put pause donation collections and focus on helping displaced residents of WNC get settled. There is still so much need in WNC, so if you want to continue helping you can drop off relief supplies to any of our other 5 branches. Any items that will not be used for the emergency shelter will be utilized for other reliefs efforts. We will provide updates over the next few days. Please continue to pray for all those affected by Hurricane Helene, and pray for everyone who has travelled to WNC to respond to this crisis. …….. The NC Emergency Service Department has activated the J.F. Hurley Family YMCA (Salisbury) as an active emergency shelter for those displaced in Western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene.
