Updates

  • On Wednesday evening, with a mix of gratitude, admiration, and perhaps a bit of sadness, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra family gathered to recognize and celebrate the exceptional leadership of Ross Lanzafame, Esq., who concluded his term as RPO Chair of the Board at the end of our magnificent centennial season. Over the past six years, Ross has exemplified true leadership, guiding us with integrity, passion, and an unwavering commitment to our mission. Under his guidance, our organization has navigated numerous challenges, embraced new opportunities, and achieved remarkable milestones. While Ross’s term as Chair of the Board has ended, we know his passion for our mission to serve the Greater Rochester region and his belief in our organization remain strong. We are fortunate that Ross will continue to be a part of our the RPO Board, and we know we are in great hands with Diana Clarkson, Esq., as her term as RPO Chair of the Board begins. With such dedicated volunteer leaders, the future is very bright for our community orchestra. We look forward to what lies ahead with great anticipation!

  • 🎓 School might be out, but our education programs are still going strong! ✨ Last month, our musicians visited EnCompass to perform an Olympic-themed concert for summer campers. The children were introduced to the unique personalities of string instruments and even got to sing along with the music. They were fully immersed in the experience! EnCompass is a flagship partner in OPUS – our Orchestral Program for Urban Students. Huge. Thank you to the Guido & Ellen Palma Foundation and the Rochester Area Community Foundation for supporting OPUS, which provides year-round music education and performance opportunities for our city's youth! 🌟👏

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra kicked off Rochester Pride Week with an exciting announcement. Drag queen and classically trained violinist Thorgy Thor is headed to Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre to perform with the RPO. "We applaud the RPO for actively seeking musicians and staff from diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences," said Trillium Health's President and CEO, Jason Barnecut-Kearns. "Pride week creates a sense of community and belonging. For many LGBTQ+ individuals finding a supportive and accepting community can be lifechanging." Trillium Health is collaborating with the RPO to bring the performer to Rochester. To help bring this performance to fruition, and to further Trillium Health's efforts during pride week, Senator Jeremy Cooney donated $30,000 in state funding to the organization.

  • One of the perks of joining the League at the Giving Circle Founding Member level is the opportunity for a “Conversation with the Conductor.” In early May, following a sit-in at the RPYO rehearsal, our league members were invited to the Ranlet Lounge for refreshments and an intimate chat with our Assistant Conductor, Jherrard Hardeman. Additionally, RPYO violist Peyton Crony gave a stunning solo performance for our Founding Members. It was an afternoon of great music and great conversation! For more info about the Giving Circle and League membership, please reach out to [email protected].
