More than one in five young Americans experience mental, emotional, or behavioral health challenges. At Rock Health, we see a unique opportunity for digital health to play a transformative role in addressing these challenges—and digital health startups are stepping up, creating accessible, personalized mental health care solutions. RockHealth.org launched the Digital Youth Mental Health Initiative to help healthcare builders, investors, and partners understand where digital innovation in youth mental health is today, and where there are opportunities. To drive this initiative forward, we developed a detailed report that explores today’s market dynamics, funding trends, and solution types in youth mental health to help investors and innovators navigate the opportunity. Key insights include: • Funding Landscape: Seed and Series A fundraises accounted for 79% of 2023’s labeled deals in the category, which points to a surge in early-stage startups focused on youth mental health needs. • Access and Reach: Many solutions target young people with limited access to mental health providers. Most digital health startups in the space offer virtual care and coaching programs (72%), self-directed digital support tools (43%), or both (26%). • Diverse Go-To-Market Models: Startups are navigating various pathways to market. While 65% contract with commercial health plans or employers, only 22% contract with state Medicaid programs or managed care organizations (MCOs), even though nearly half of young people in the U.S. are Medicaid beneficiaries. • Design and Privacy: Successful tools are designed specifically for youth, with input from young users. Privacy is critical, especially for users under 18, making data protection a priority. + For an overview, read our blog: https://lnkd.in/g_G5h-W4 + Check out the full report to explore the digital youth mental health startup landscape, complete with analyses on solution types, care models, and go-to-market strategies: https://lnkd.in/gwRpm9zq #DigitalYouthMentalHealth #HealthcareInnovation #MentalHealthMatters #RHSummit24

Virtual care has deep roots in rural America. According to Rock Health’s Consumer Adoption Survey, virtual care use grew 16 percentage points among rural respondents between 2020-2023, driven by COVID-19 telehealth expansion as well as the growth of digital services specifically designed for rural communities. Innovators building digital health solutions that effectively and sustainably address rural care gaps are doing so with a deep understanding of the unique cultural and infrastructural contexts of these communities. Their approaches center respect for local health traditions and consumer needs, collaboration with existing local care networks, and resolution of persistent connectivity challenges. Digital health products must extend, not replace, the infrastructures that rural communities rely on.
