About us

Robin Hood is New York's largest poverty-fighting organization, and since 1988 has focused on finding, funding, and creating programs and schools that generate meaningful results for families in New York's poorest neighborhoods. Since its founding, Robin Hood has raised more than $2.5 billion in dollars, goods and services to provide hundreds of the most effective soup kitchens, homeless shelters, schools, job-training programs and other vital services that give New York’s neediest citizens the tools they need to build better lives. In addition, Robin Hood's board of directors pays all administrative, fundraising and evaluation costs, so 100% of your donation goes directly to organizations helping New Yorkers in need.

New reports from Robin Hood and Columbia University’s Center on Poverty and Social Policy reveal the harsh reality of child care issues in NYC. Nearly a third of working mothers are held back from joining the workforce due to lack of affordable child care options. Half of all working moms face work disruptions, and those who experience child care-related job issues are 1.5x more likely to endure material hardships the following year. At Robin Hood, we're committed to addressing this. Since 2022, we've invested $23 million in expanding access to affordable, quality child care. It’s time to ensure every NYC parent has the opportunity to work without child care holding them back. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eFKpEAep #FightPoverty #PovertyTracker

Last night, Robin Hood supporters and our partners at CityPickle served up a night of poverty-fighting fun at Wollman Rink in Central Park! Thanks to their commitment on and off the court, our teams raised $150,000 that will help make NYC a better place for all. Safe to say they all aced it out there! Congrats to our tournament winners, the Jersey Boys team from Citadel, for winning an INCREDIBLE match with a score of 17-15! Thank you to Sake ONO for supplying our players and spectators with delicious drinks throughout the evening. And thank you to Equinox for the epic pickleball paddles. Thanks to all for supporting this event. Thanks for being Robin Hood! #FightPoverty

Last week, Box volunteers rolled up their sleeves and joined forces with Robin Hood to fight poverty in NYC! One group of volunteers started their morning at New York Common Pantry in East Harlem, packing meals and fresh produce for immediate distribution to those facing food insecurity. They also helped participants select their groceries—empowering them to choose what works best for their families. Meanwhile, another group gathered at Box HQ for a Robin Hood 101 session, led by our Partnerships team. After learning about our mission and our community partner Henry Street Settlement, the group packed mental health kits. These kits will provide critical resources and therapeutic activities for individuals accessing mental health services at Henry Street’s Community Consultation Center. Thank you to Box for partnering with us and giving your time to make a meaningful impact in our community. Together, we’re helping give every New Yorker a fair shot. Robin Hood's $36.3 million in new grants—as part of its third quarter investments for 2024—is fueling over 100 organizations across the five boroughs, addressing critical areas like housing, healthcare, education, and economic development. Among the highlights, $13.7 million is dedicated to education initiatives, with a focus on early literacy, teacher training, and college counseling programs. Sarah Oltmans, Chief of Grant Strategy at Robin Hood, noted, “In this round of grants, we're just trying to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers. We want to make sure that New York City continues to be a place that works for all New Yorkers.” These grants arrive at a pivotal time. As Richard Buery, Robin Hood’s CEO, remarked, “New York is at an inflection point, where poverty is increasing by record numbers year-over-year, government spending is constrained, and those living in poverty are increasingly caught in the financial vice between rising prices and stagnant wages.” With rising costs of living affecting nearly 50% of working-age New Yorkers, Robin Hood is working to stabilize low-income households while providing pathways to upward economic mobility. As Robin Hood continues its efforts to support all New Yorkers, these investments are a lifeline to ensure NYC remains an engine of opportunity for all. #FightPoverty https://lnkd.in/gcdaS2pM

At a recent fireside chat hosted by Capital One, Robin Hood CEO Richard Buery joined Neal Blinde, President of Commercial Banking at Capital One, for a powerful conversation on the future of poverty-fighting in New York City. Together, they discussed Robin Hood’s critical work, how AI is shaping our strategy, and the evolving political landscape that impacts our mission. One key highlight? Our growing partnership with Capital One. Over the past seven years, we've built a strong collaboration, and this past year, we took it even further with a first-of-its-kind place-based investment in the Bronx. This innovative approach focuses on workforce development and college access for young adults—an essential step in creating sustainable pathways out of poverty. Capital One employees also stepped up by volunteering to assemble back-to-school kits for our community partner, BronxWorks. This hands-on support will ensure students in the Bronx start the school year ready to succeed. We’re just getting started. As Rich said, “Our partnership is off to a great start, but the challenges we are taking on together will require longer-term commitments.” Thank you, Capital One, for being a vital partner in our work to make New York City an engine of opportunity for all!
