Riverside is recognizing Suicide Prevention Month by sharing valuable resources and tools to educate individuals, fortify communities, and inspire action. Education plays a crucial role in suicide prevention—understanding risk factors, recognizing warning signs, and knowing where to find support can save lives. Effective suicide prevention requires teaching everyone, not just those who are struggling. Collective education can reduce stigma, enhance support systems for suicidal individuals, and prevent suicide. Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), Riverside joins the global community in mourning the lives lost to substance use and reaffirms its commitment to supporting recovering individuals, reducing stigma, and promoting treatment. IOAD’s 2024 theme, "Together We Can," emphasizes the importance of communal support in recovery. At Riverside Community Care, community isn’t just part of our name- it’s a fundamental part of who we are and how we approach healthcare. Our Connect2Recovery program’s collaborative, compassionate approach to substance use treatment unites individuals with a skilled support team to help them achieve their recovery goals. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we will provide individuals and families touched by addiction with the tools to find hope for the future and achieve long-term sustained recovery. https://buff.ly/3Z9ZZip #OverdoseAwareness #IOAD2024 #Recovery #TogetherWeCan #EndOverdose

Dr. Patrick McEnaney, a surgeon at Milford Regional Medical Center and Riverside supporter, is once again taking on an extraordinary challenge for an urgent cause. On September 21-22, he'll be running the Mountain Lakes 100-miler in Oregon to raise funds for Riverside and increase awareness of suicide prevention. When Patrick was 12 years old, he lost a brother to suicide at the age of 16. Ten years later, he lost another brother to suicide. These intense physical trials mirror the challenging fight against suicide. Patrick has impressively already run over 300 miles and raised more than $74,000 for Riverside through three previous races! We were very honored to receive the Annual Employer Partnership Award from the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind yesterday. Over the years, Riverside has hired many qualified interns and employees from the blind community, and they are valuable members of the Riverside team. We are pleased that our supportive and inclusive work community has been recognized publicly, and we thank the commission for both this recognition and for working towards a more inclusive society. Rebecca Mirick (Research Consultant to Riverside Trauma Center and MindWise Innovations), Jim McCauley (Associate Director of Riverside Trauma Center), and Joanna Bridger (Former Trauma Center Clinical Director and a member of our Critical Incident Team) recently published a pivotal article, “Trauma-Informed Practice with Individuals with Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors,” in the Clinical Social Work Journal emphasizing the importance of trauma-informed practices when treating individuals with suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The article explores the strong relationship between trauma and suicidality while highlighting the dearth of information on how a trauma-informed approach is applied to work with this population. Trauma-informed practices consist of compassionate, collaborative care grounded in the recognition of trauma's widespread impact and the long-term effects of traumatic stress, and the article underscores the need for trauma-informed care as a universal precaution that can prevent harm and promote healing for all. Read the abstract here: https://buff.ly/3AiYcgs #Traumainformedcare #ClinicalSocialWorkJournal

Riverside clinician Stacy-Ann Hylton was recently a featured presenter at the International Association of Special Education (IASE) 18th Biennial Conference in the Czech Republic, where Stacy-Ann showcased Riverside's Behavioral Treatment Services program to delegates from over 30 countries. In addition to presenting, Stacy-Ann attended numerous educational sessions and learned new strategies and techniques to share with the Riverside team. She also visited a community-based residence and vocational setting for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, where she gained valuable firsthand experience and swapped fresh perspectives on current behavioral healthcare issues with international providers. What a great experience! #developmentaldisabilities #intellectualdisabilities #IASE
