Postdoctoral Research Position: The Neural Processing and Control Lab (NeutralPC Lab) at the University of Rhode Island (URI), the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering (ECBE), is seeking a postdoctoral scholar in the field of neural signal processing and machine learning algorithms. The focus of the position will be on the development of data fusion algorithms to decode multimodal neural responses including EEG and fNIRS. The candidate is expected to be involved in all aspects of this research including experimental design, data collection, method development, signal analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation, and grant development. The candidate may also contribute to ongoing virtual reality (VR)-based brain-computer interface (BCI) projects and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Requirements: Essential qualifications: Expertise in machine learning/ A.I. Excellent programming skills in Python or MATLAB Deep understanding of biological signal processing of neurophysiological data (EEG, fNIRS) Must hold a PhD in related fields Fluency in written and spoken English Aptitude to collaborate with both technical and clinical collaborators Candidates without any demonstrations of proficiency in these areas will not be considered. In addition, the candidate should have excellent writing and communication skills as well as a strong work ethic. Aidan Kindopp ’24 spent the last year studying abroad as a Chemical Engineering (Pharmaceutical Track) and French IEP Major in France. The International Engineering Program curriculum provides a high level of preparation so that students feel confident living in another culture and speaking a second language daily. Aiden is now pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Last night, University of Rhode Island hosted WSBE Rhode Island PBS and The Public's Radio 89.3 FM, exploring the extreme impacts #microplastics have on humans and the environment with faculty panelists Jyothi Menon, Jaime Ross and J.P. Walsh, moderated by reporter Michelle San Miguel, following her coverage of this pressing issue in the Ocean State on Rhode Island PBS Weekly. Last year San Miguel reported on research by #URIGSO's J.P. Walsh and Victoria Fulfer, Ph.D., revealing that the top two inches of the floor of #NarragansettBay now contain more than 1,000 tons of microplastics. Jaime Ross and Jyothi Menon, from University of Rhode Island - College of Pharmacy, discussed the impact of microplastics on the human body and the results of studies indicating how they accumulate in the body; see uri.edu for more on their research. Professor-BME, Director-Wearable Biosensing Lab, Co-Founder-WellAware, Director-URI BME Program
We hosted 20 students (undergraduate, high school, and middle school) this summer. Each student was immersed in mentored projects, gaining the technical and professional skills demanded in today's marketplace. Our BME Spark program provided hands-on training with Arduino and prototyping for circuit and design development. Through innovation and brainstorming, students identified real-world problems and created their own projects. At the Wearable Biosensing Lab, students had the unique opportunity to work on NSF and NIH-funded research projects under the guidance of our experienced lab researchers. Some of the interns were supported by NSF REU, Science and Engineering Fellowship, URISE, and SURF. Training a highly diverse group in terms of skills, areas, culture, language, and aspirations is challenging, but it is incredibly fulfilling to contribute to training the next-generation STEM workforce. Along with research, we did some fun activities - playing pickleball and other sports. Special thanks to our dedicated mentors for making this experience possible!
