We advocate at the federal, state, and local levels for sensible legislative and policy solutions that support and empower manufacturing's unique role as the Economic Engine for Rhode Island. Today, RIMA Member, Senesco Marine LLC , officially christened and launched the Captain Almer Dinsmore, a 154-foot hybrid ferry built right here in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. This marks a major milestone not only for Senesco Marine but also for the Northeast—Dinsmore is the first hybrid ferry designed and constructed in the region! Equipped with a hybrid diesel/electric propulsion system, the Dinsmore will be added to the Maine State Ferry Service’s fleet, providing a sustainable and efficient transportation option for commuters. William M. Davies, Jr. Career and Technical High School has unveiled a state-of-the-art Swiss-style CNC machine, thanks to a generous donation from the Robert E. Morris Corporation. This cutting-edge equipment will elevate the manufacturing program, providing students with hands-on experience on technology they'll encounter in the workforce. On October 16, David Chenevert of the Rhode Island Manufacturer’s Association (RIMA) and Brad Morris of the Robert E. Morris Corporation introduced the $150,000 machine to local officials and the Davies Board of Trustees. State representatives highlighted the importance of equipping the next generation of manufacturers with advanced skills. With approximately 20,000 hours of work-related learning completed this year, Davies students are on a path to success, thanks to strong partnerships with local businesses. The CHIPS for America Office recently announced a new $5 million Entrepreneurial Fellowship Pilot Program, funded by the CHIPS and Science Act, to support up to 10 early-stage companies focused on innovations in semiconductor manufacturing technologies. On Wednesday, October 2, RIMA Member & Sponsor, igus Inc., proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new igus injection molding facility and robotics campus, welcoming over 130 guests, including local and industry media, customers, partners, and students. The event featured distinguished attendees such as U.S. Senator Jack Reed, U.S. Representative Gabe Amo, R.I. Commerce Secretary Elizabeth M. Tanner, Esq., and East Providence Bob DaSilva, who all joined us in expressing their congratulations. Following remarks from igus President and CEO, Felix Brockmeyer, Senator Jack Reed, and Secretary Tanner, the ceremonial ribbon-cutting took place, marking a significant milestone for igus North America. Guests enjoyed guided tours of igus facilities at 50 North Broadway, 270 Greenwood, and 257 Ferris, allowing them to explore our state-of-the-art injection molding capabilities and RBTX robotics laboratory.
