Today, we recognize Larry Itliong—one of the fathers of the West Coast labor movement and a trailblazer for Filipino American activism. ✊🏽 Itliong’s legacy is rooted in over four decades of organizing, from Alaska’s canneries to California’s vineyards. His leadership in the 1965 Delano Grape Strike united Filipino and Mexican farmworkers, paving the way for the formation of the United Farm Workers (UFW). As we celebrate Larry Itliong Day during Filipino American History Month, his story reminds us of the power of solidarity, the impact of collective action, and the ongoing struggle for labor rights and justice. 🌾

There are 61 million people with disabilities in the United States, yet only 2% of all philanthropic funding supports disability initiatives, and just $0.01 out of every $10 goes to support disability justice. In honor of #NationalDisabilityAwarenessMonth, Workforce Matters Funders Network asked Irvine’s Tuquan Harrison and Kessler Foundation’s Elaine E. Katz, MS, CCC-SP to briefly share about their work to invest in and advance opportunities for workers and learners with disabilities. As we work to expand our investments in disability employment, Tuquan is “excited to be able to benefit from the Kessler Foundation’s long history of investing in this space as the Irvine Foundation leans into building disability inclusion into our workforce equity portfolio. We know people with disabilities are disproportionately impacted by low wages and job economic insecurity, and we cannot accomplish our goal of a California where all low-income workers have the power to advance economically without specific investments in opportunities for disabled workers and learners.” Thank you, Workforce Matters, for featuring Tuquan! "After months of delays, the mandated minimum wage increase, the first in the United States to target the health care industry, aims to alleviate workforce shortages and improve patient care. The raises could help health employers recruit and retain workers in often tough, frontline jobs." https://lnkd.in/g3BEeswT Learn more about the law's impacts on workers, patients, and the state budget in our report: https://lnkd.in/gczMS6sw
