Tez is nearing the completion of his United World Challenge Expedition 2, a Pacific Ocean crossing by human-powered rowboat. His mission: combat the ocean plastic crisis and promote the amazing work of his impact partner, Sungai Watch, an Indonesian group working to protect and restore our world’s rivers and oceans by developing and installing simple, effective technologies to stop the flow of plastic pollution before it meets the sea. At the end of last year, Brian Plavnicky, our CEO, got another amazing opportunity to help Tez Steinberg and his team during their final push toward the December 19th launch date. He traveled to O'ahu once again and shared some truly special moments with Tez and the #UnitedWorldChallenge team, before getting the real honor of easing Tez and his rowboat Moderation off the dock. As a friend, partner, and gear sponsor, we couldn't be prouder of Tez for completing an incredible inaugural journey from California to Hawaii, and then deciding to embark on another - even longer - world record attempt - to paddle 5,000 miles away across the Pacific to Australia, unsupported, nonstop, and totally alone. The spirit of exploration becons us all - at some point or another - to take a leap, take a dive, or hop on a plane last minute with a one-way ticket to Hawaii to help a buddy prep for a 5,000 mile row across the Pacific. We couldn’t resist the call and went to support one of our best pals, Tez Steinberg, as he prepared to set out on what would be the longest row of his life. In November, the United World Challenge team needed all hands on deck to ready Tez and his rowboat “Moderation” for the long journey. From swimming with sharks to pulling all-nighters wedged in a body-sized cubby retrofitting lights, this was an adventure for the books.  Stay tuned for Part 2 and learn more about Tez’s mission to combat ocean plastic at unitedworldchallenge.org. 🌏

For #WorldKindnessDay last year, our CEO Brian Plavnicky spoke on a panel for Kindfest with some like-minded individuals and entrepreneurs doing what they can to use their platforms to help inspire and bring kindness to their communities and beyond. It really inspired us and we have since been extra conscious, doing our best within our small space to spread as much kindness as we can. To give you some extra little ideas of what you can do for World Kindness Day, here are a few things that we have been participating in: 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 Brian is a volunteer firefighter for the SLFD, and on a recent day, went above and beyond his expected duties to bring back to his and Kody’s home not one, not two, but FIVE separate civilians to help them wait out a snow storm. The first was in a nearby Canyon and had a minor leg injury. Brian jumped into action setting up a little medical station on the floor in their home to wrap up the wound and even went digging for some socks to replace the cold, bloody ones the man was now wearing. The second man of the night was unable to get his car started and needed a warm place to make his phone calls. Without a second thought, he made sure to help these then strangers and changed the course of their night for the better. 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 Our admin assistant Christine volunteers her time to run a small dog rescue Last Minute Dog Rescue with a small group of women - finding homes for the unseen, unwanted and forgotten. Some of these dogs are pulled the day of their scheduled euthanasia in Texas kill shelters, just in the nick of time. You can adopt, foster, or donate at https://lnkd.in/gquWgpGU. 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆, 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗽 Revel Gear has adopted a stretch of highway and have officially held our first ever ‘Sparklefest’ Cleanup with a crew of volunteers all spreading kindness into the world by keeping our shared spaces cleaner for the people and animals who come after. We also make a point of getting out as a team for Earth Day to do a little extra. It can be as simple as just remembering to take a trash bag with you along on your hikes, in case you see something discarded that you can carry out with you. If you’re in the Boulder area and would like to participate in one of our cleanups, keep an eye out on our social media for when we announce the next one! ... Continued in comments
