In collaboration with the CFRF adaptation working group, we developed a series of data products and guidance that are all now openly available, including: - Synthesis of more than 35 existing #adaptation #taxonomies globally - Development of an approach to #transitionplanning for adaptation, building upon the #TPTguidance, with detailed targets and metrics. "#Finance is starting to 'get' #adaptation... And what is it they ‘get’? Every business in the world will need to act to adapt to a changing #climate and #environmentaldegradation. Every new #infrastructure asset – financial flows of $2.9 trillion a year – will need to be resilient. Where and how we grow #food and use #water will need to change. And we will need to transform our #supplychains and economy to protect our #naturalcapital – fundamental to resilience – upon which our core #commodities and supply chains rely". For leading FIs, adaptation isn't just about managing #physicalclimaterisks, but is a huge opportunity. We urgently need to scale up adaptation and nature finance and this investment can be a win-win for FIs, their clients, investees and society. See: https://lnkd.in/gbewA_Dz Over the past year, we've worked with 100s of partners across many countries - from Europe to Asia, the Caribbean and Africa - to co-develop tools and evidence to grow #adaptation and #naturefinance based on the best science and research.  Here is what we found: - To a large extent, we already have the metrics and standards we need to operationalise adaptation within finance. - We’re not short of data, but we are short of skills/capability to use it well. - Efforts to price and manage risks are however being hampered by current scenarios and approaches that do not capture the risks adequately. - Taxonomies are everywhere and already being used by many asset managers to structure adaptation-aligned portfolios.  - Integrating resilience into emerging #transitionplans makes sense. So far, firms have taken the ‘low-hanging fruit’ with few signs that adaptation is being fully addressed. - but, a lack of government action is stifling progress. FIs and corporates struggle to align their plans and investments with adaptation needs when there is no clear plan from government or sense of what good adaptation looks like. 📢 Our first annual report is now live! 📢 The Resilient Planet Finance Lab was established last year (in collaboration with United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and Insurance Development Forum) as an accelerator programme that aims to radically scale the mobilisation of finance and action for resilience, nature and SDGs globally. Over the last year, we've delivered a whole suite of new evidence, analytics, and solutions to centre climate adaptation, nature and resilience in financial decision-making. This would not have been possible without our partners to whom we are super grateful. Dr Jimena Alvarez of the Resilient Planet Finance Lab @UniofOxford will give the keynote address on integrated nature-climate risks, stress testing and scenario analysis at the first major joint event of the UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI) and Integrating Finance and Biodiversity Programme in Leeds on 8th October. Her speech will link together insights from our work as part of Integrating Finance and Biodiversity with UK policymakers, financial institutions and the NGFS on nature-related risks with previous work on lessons from CBES for stress testing and scenario analysis led by Dr Nicola Ranger, Director of RPFL, with the Climate Financial Risk Forum, as part of the CGFI. When we work with financial institutions on #resilience and #adaptation, lack of data and knowledge often come up as a key barrier. Questions such as "how do I interpret data for #physicalriskassessment and what data is best?", "what does a good #investment look like?" and "how can we assess progress of firms on managing climate and nature risks and their #alignment with goals?". The mission of the Resilient Planet Finance Lab @UniofOxford, led by Dr Nicola Ranger, is to co-develop and share the evidence, analytics and solutions to radically scale the #mobilisation of in finance for #resilience, #nature and #SDGs globally. As a research and impact accelerator, we work as a public good, developing resources to support policy and investment decisions with core principles of openness, quality, inclusiveness and objectivity. A fantastic start to #LCAW2024, co-hosting a roundtable of 40 institutional investors, government officials and project developers to explore how we can #mobilisefinance for #resilientinfrastructure in Emerging and Developing Economies with The Private Infrastructure Development Group and Climate Policy Initiative. We discussed: - the growing adaptation finance gap - around $60bn per year (around 10% of mitigation finance) - the reasons for the apparent mismatch between the size of this gap and the demonstrated success and returns at project level with case studies and analyses shared by PIDG, BlackRock, HSBC et al - opportunities through making resilience a core part of the due diligence processes for the $2.9 trillion existing finance flows - opportunities for infrastructure with dual benefits, with resilience integrated alongside development and net zero - need for more work to build a conducive environment for investment in EMDEs - opportunities for scaling up resilience finance via fixed income markets, particularly sovereign green and sustainable bonds - growing opportunities for #greeninfrastructure with #intentionalbenefits for people, planet and prosperity - #systemicbenefits of investing in resilient infrastructure in terms of improved credit ratings, local jobs and development and global supply chain and macroeconomic resilience We showed our toolkit for assessing resilient investment opportunities via the Resilient Planet Data Hub, including our open global risk assessment tool and resilient infrastructure toolkits in Jamaica, South East Asia and East Africa developed by @OPSIS. We also showcased our #resiliencefinance tools including our synthesis of 35 adaptation investment taxonomies and analysis demonstrating the #local and #global #systemicresilience benefits of investing in resilient infrastructure in EMDEs The event was chaired by the always fantastic Emma Howard Boyd CBE and hosted by PIDG CEO Valahu Philippe with our excellent partners Stuart Cannon, Marco Serena, Dharshan Wignarajah and Sasha Abraham and our resilient infrastructure toolkit expertly demonstrated by Mark Bernhofen, Roberto S. and Estelle Paulus.
