Language shapes our thoughts more than we realize - and many everyday expressions carry implications of violence, or even colonial domination. Reflect on how often we use these kinds of phrases and why. How might they subtly influence our mindsets and our broader culture? Let's continue to build conscious and compassionate ways of communicating that reflect the kind of world we want to live in. #ConsciousLanguage #Mindfulness #LanguageMatters #Intentionality #InclusiveLanguage

As we approach the 4th of July, a day that symbolizes freedom and independence, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on our nation’s relationship to those concepts. One powerful way to do this is by reading Frederick Douglass's profound speech, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” In this speech, delivered on July 5, 1852, Douglass provides a poignant critique of American society's celebration of liberty while many were still enslaved. His words challenge us to consider the true essence of freedom and the ongoing journey toward equality and justice for all. We invite you to join us in spending time with both his words and these reflection questions this week. -Ask Yourself & Ask a Neighbor: What does liberation mean to you? How can I help you get closer to it? How can we get there together? -Celebrations and Critiques: How can we commemorate the 4th of July in a way that acknowledges both the achievements and the shortcomings of our nation's history and present? -Actions and Advocacy: How can you contribute to ensuring that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are rights for everyone? #FourthOfJuly #FrederickDouglass #DEI #Liberation

reframe52 is delighted to have Dr. Tanya Saroj Bakhru aboard our our education team! Tanya is an educator and scholar with an interest in reproductive justice and global women's health issues. "I am biracial and grew up in a household that was deeply impacted by colonization and displacement," Tanya writes. "Because of my family's background, I am dedicated to centering the voices of those on the margins and working with an intersectional understanding for social transformation and justice." We're deeply grateful for Tanya's meaningful contributions and feedback on our ever-expanding curriculum, and are excited to continue collaborating and dreaming with her! Fun fact: Tanya is a third generation dachshund owner!
