🎶 Music always brings us together. 👏 Hosted by the #RecordingAcademy and the U.S. Department of State, we celebrated the culmination of the first-ever American Music Mentorship Program as part of the PEACE Through Music Diplomacy Act, passed into law in December 2022 following our advocacy efforts. ✨ The special event highlighted music's power, music mentorship, and the creative economy through a conversation with mentor Jonathan Azu, mentee Juliana Imam, and moderator Dee Dee Myers, Senior Advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom and Director of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development; and recognized 10-time GRAMMY-winner Dolly Parton with the PEACE Through Music Award for her invaluable contributions to cross-cultural understanding and her work in promoting peace through music. 🌟 The event also featured a beautiful performance from Nova Payton, Luke Frazier, and members of the American Pops Orchestra in honor of Dolly Parton, and remarks from Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy; Ruby Marchand, Chief Awards and Global Industry Officer at the Recording Academy; Lee Satterfield, Acting Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs; and Nicole Elkon, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State.
