About us
In 1992, three women artists and one community organizer founded REACH LA in response to the lack of HIV/AIDS prevention education for youth of color. They worked with teenage youth to develop educational programming that was targeted to combat the rise in HIV infection rates. Our current approach includes HIV prevention education, HIV testing, linkage to care and support services for HIV positive and high-risk negative youth and young adults. We have since cultivated our legacy into a multifaceted approach that includes HIV prevention education, HIV testing, linkage to care and support services for HIV positive & high-risk negative youth and young adults. REACH LA has built a safe and supportive environment that strives to educate, motivate and mobilize youth around sexual/reproductive health, culture and self-preservation. “We’ve come this far, we’ve got a story to tell!” (Melody Taproot Consultant)

Happy Trans Awareness Month! #transawarenessmonth 💖
Happy Trans Awareness Month! Today, we’re looking at the different ways trans people transition. Transitioning is the process a person undertakes to bring their gender expression and/or their body into alignment with their gender identity. It is a complex process that typically occurs over a long period. The exact steps involved in transition will vary from person to person. A trans person is not required to take any steps to be considered trans. (Note: Not all trans people experience gender dysphoria.) Social transition Socially transitioning includes telling family, friends, and co-workers, using a different name, using other pronouns, dressing differently, etc. Often the first step in transitioning, social transition is the most common type of transition for minors and for people who do not have access to gender-affirming medical care. Legal transition A legal transition includes changing your name and/or sex marker on documents like a driver’s license, passport, bank account, etc. Legal transition can often be out of reach for lower-income trans people. Location can also impact accessibility. Medical transition Medical transition may include hormone replacement therapy and/or one or more surgical procedures. This is often more accessible to trans people over the age of 18. There are several hurdles to accessing medically necessary gender-affirming care, including socioeconomic limitations and medical discrimination Wherever you are in your transition, we wish our trans friends a happy Happy Trans Awareness Month! ️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️ 💙💗🤍 💗💙💙💗🤍 💗💙 🖤🤎 ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 🏳️⚧️ #transawarenessmonth #transawareness #trans #queeryouthpower #lgbtpride #lgbthistory #lgbtqrights #lgbtqsupport #lgbtqsupport #lgbtqteens #lgbtqmiami #lgbtqia #lgbtq #trans #pansexual #mentalhealth #youareenough #lovelove #queerjoy #protecttranskids #saygay #transrightsarehumanrights

REACH LA reposted this
Over the weekend, I had the honor of facilitating a board of directors retreat for REACH LA. What an amazing, committed, and engaged group of beautiful humans! Everyone was fully present, eager to learn, and absolutely dedicated to the mission. I can't wait to see how they continue to develop as a cohesive board and take this amazing organization to its next phase of success! Thanks Andrew Vega for your kind words, and I hope to work with you again in the future! #ilovemyjob #consulting #nonprofits #boarddevelopment
We’re kicking off day two of the REACH LA board retreat, where we are onboarding SIX new board members. We’re revisiting the mission statement, aligning on goals for the year, and practicing elevator pitches combined with some fun. Thanks to Hotel Zoso Palm Springs for their lovely hospitality and for taking such good care of us. I cannot say enough about the amazing Launa Wilson for her incredible design and facilitation. Would recommend her to any organization looking to build your board’s capacity. Excited for the impact this board will have to help REACH LA serve LGBTQIA+ people of color and their communities.
