About us

We believe that the health insurance industry should do far more than just provide access to doctors and cover or administer claims. We believe health care plans should help people live healthier. Which is exactly what makes us different. As a health plan management and administrative services company, we’re leading the charge on everything from expanding network physician and provider options to creating innovative approaches to wellness, prevention and community well-being. That’s because at Quartz, we’re a company committed to good health. Beginning in mid-2017, Gundersen Health Plan, Unity Health Insurance and Physicians Plus joined forces under the Quartz brand name, with Advocate Aurora Health joining us in 2021. Together, we provide our members with high-quality service and affordable coverage. We manage services for those health insurance plans as well as provide administrative services for self-funded health plans as Quartz ASO, while serving 350,000+ customers who live in southern, eastern and western Wisconsin, parts of Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota from offices located in Onalaska and Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Quartz is committed to volunteering and making a positive impact in the community. Recently, Camp Brandenburg, a local Girl Scout camp, called for volunteers to help with preparations for the upcoming stay of the Girl Scouts in July. Our dedicated interns and team members eagerly seized the chance to clean up the trails and make a valuable impact. "Our full-time employees are granted 16 hours of volunteer time off, which is a great benefit. We have many employees who go beyond that and who remain very active in the community. It is important for our interns to get out in the community during their time with us and experience the impact Quartz is making in the communities we serve," says Olivia Stoffels, Quartz Talent Acquisition Specialist and Internship Program Manager.

Carola Gaines, Quartz Community Advocate & Liaison Manager, attended the Juneteenth celebration in Madison last month. For 35 years, Madison has celebrated the historical Juneteenth event, which promotes unity and celebrates pride within Madison’s diasporic Black, Afro-Caribbean, and African communities. The celebration brings together the community for a parade, Black community vendors, health and resource tents, civic and church activities, a children’s play area, and a main stage featuring entertainment and heritage announcements. Quartz proudly supports this event to help our communities shine brighter.

The top of the banner reads "The Juneteenth" in large, white letters, and the bottom of the banner has the text "celebration" in black against a yellow stripe. The individual is holding a small sign with "Quartz" written on it.

We were honored to join the Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation, e-Platinum Health, and to attend the Meriter Pro Am and the Spence Jensen Classic Fundraiser benefiting Opportunities Inc. this month. These events allowed us to connect with community leaders and contribute to causes that align with our mission to create a life well-lived within reach for all. Thank you to everyone who attended!

Our dedication to fostering inclusion in our organization and communities is fueled by the passion of countless Quartz employees - like Anessa - who embrace every opportunity to ensure all voices are heard. “It’s extremely important to me to see Pride Month recognized in my community and work environment as I have several close family members who are in the LGBTQ+ community – including all three of my children. Ongoing recognition of the marginalized members of our community is critical to continually educating everyone. Celebrating Pride Month brings the needed awareness for everyone to feel safe. Being in an Employee Resource Group (ERG) at Quartz allows us the opportunity to make an impact on health care for a given community. For instance, the LGBTQ+ ERG can work to ensure we are identifying providers in our network that are comfortable and experienced with the LGBTQ+ population. Often, LGBTQ+ members do not seek necessary health care because of fear of how they will be treated. I hope to make a difference, even if it is small, so all members can feel safe and secure in getting their health care needs met. I am naturally curious and love to ask questions when getting to know co-workers. I feel this offers others a chance to share about themselves, by and learning more, we will have more to talk about. I am the person who will say hi to everyone – no matter your job title or status.”

I hope it is small, so all members can feel safe and secure in getting their health care needs met." A logo with the word "PRIDE" is visible in the bottom right corner.

We are incredibly proud of Alaina Miller, our DEI&B coordinator, who recently presented at Sauk Prairie High School's Black Student Union! She presented on the importance and purpose of DEI&B, her experience as a woman who identifies as Black in the healthcare industry, fostering a mutual exchange of ideas and experiences and sense of belonging, while the students shared their personal journeys in identifying as Black/African Americans. Open dialogue and genuine connections are at the heart of Quartz values and our vision for our communities. Thank you, Alaina, for leading this conversation!

As we continue to celebrate Pride Month, we feel privileged to foster a culture that empowers employee resource groups (ERGs) to make a genuine difference in our organization and communities. “Having a close family member that is part of the LGBTQ+ community inspires me to be the best ally I can be. The Quartz Allies of LGBTQ+ ERG has provided me with the support I need to fully embrace ALL people and let them know they are seen, heard, loved, and accepted. I can’t stress enough the support I receive from my ERG and how much it means to me to be able to share with them and support others. Pride Month is important to create awareness and celebrate our differences, knowing everyone is unique, has value and is enough.” – Cindy Krueger, Sr. Director, Enrollment, Billing & Collections ; Chair Allies of LGBTQ+ ERG ; Executive Sponsor LGBTQ+ ERG
