If you want to understand how PUNCH FOR PINK works, this incredible and magnificent one-of-a-kind dress (for now) is our signifier. Created by an artist Jana Aspeling Art out of passion because she believes in the way we talk about breast health.An artist who wants to be part of a constructive, creative, and collaborative ever-evolving conversation, that gives of her time and talents to make the world better, kinder, and more interesting. Our fashion show with 50 survivors who have overcome challenges we cannot even imagine, takes place in a dynamic setting at @kamersmakers full of life, colour, and diversity. And we are supported and joined in our cause by literally hundreds of creatives, doing their part to help us rebrand breast cancer. Early detection may save lives, but women need transport, babysitting and other support to get the lifesaving treatment they need. We will not pay lip service to the cause. As we limber up for #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, a few words on the PUNCH FOR PINK vision so that you all know what we are trying to achieve and why. 🥊💗 12.5% of our female population is diagnosed with breast cancer each year. The statistics we have are largely inaccurate and thus, this figure could be even higher. 😔 Essentially, it translates to 1 in 8 women being diagnosed in their lifetime. 👩⚕️💪 1 million children are orphaned by cancer each year worldwide. The highest percentage of these is mothers lost to breast cancer. We women are both breadwinners and caregivers, before we have given anything back to ourselves. 🌍👩👧👦 All of this, well, it's just unacceptable. WE DO NOT accept it. ✋ WE are here to fight it, to disrupt the status quo. To work toward real, meaningful systemic change. 🚀 PUNCH FOR PINK is here to rebrand breast cancer. Punch for Pink is both a movement, campaign, and platform working and lobbying for systemic change in the women's health arena. Punch for Pink was created to bring leaders, activists, and survivors together to communicate and collaborate around women's health issues. We use creativity, flamboyance, fashion, music and art to foster connection, conversation, collaboration, and capacity building in South Africa's NPO and public health sector, starting with breast health. Why boobs? Both because a co-founder of The Creative Change Company and Punch for Pink, Marli Du Toit, is a survivor but also because it is an internal public health crisis - an invisible pandemic we want to cast a spotlight on using fun, fashion, beauty, and art. We are rebranding breast cancer, untying the pink ribbon, getting colourful to engage the public in serious stuff by creating a sense of FOMO, inspiration and community. Punch for Pink is now officially working with six breast health support NPOs in South Africa, including Dr Liana Roodt's Project Flamingo that gets surgeons to perform mastectomies free of charge for state patients. We take a multi-faceted approach: Creative Awareness: Through vibrant, high-profile activations, we draw attention to the staggering facts of breast cancer, engaging hearts and minds. Education: We partner with esteemed breast cancer NPOs like Project Flamingo, Reach for Recovery, I Love Boobies and Check Know Prevent, to help amplify their outreach and educational efforts, ensuring every woman has access to life-saving information and support during her fight. Fundraising: We unite corporate, government, and the public, pooling resources to make a real impact in the lives of breast cancer warriors and their communities.
