NATIONAL AVIATION DAY was created at the behest of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939, on the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday. That proclamation was meant to celebrate the development and advancements of aviation in the United States at a time when both commercial and military aircraft had been proven and were on the rise. The decade of the 1930’s was known as the Golden Age of Aviation, which saw the birth of commercial aviation nationwide and the advancement of aircraft use in all of the military services. In current times, aviation provides essential transportation in all aspects of our civilized lives, including uses in private flying, commercial passenger and cargo transport, governmental conveyance, news and observation, medical and emergency response missions, and in numerous military uses, all of which demonstrate the critical importance and reliance of aviation in a modern society. Today, we are witnessing the birth of a new approach to passenger travel and a host of other use cases that will employ electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) to bring about more efficient flight services, with the promise of near-zero emissions and far less airborne noise, called Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). PS&S has a proven record of navigating the complexities of AAM and stands ready to assist developers in the planning and creation of Vertiports to serve this new aerial network enterprise.
