PROMICON
Biotechnology Research
A Horizon 2020 project harnessing the power of nature through PROductive MIcrobial CONsortia in biotechnology
About us
The aim of the PROMICON project is to learn from nature how microbiomes function through latest and novel methods in order to steer their growth towards production of biopolymers, energy carriers, drop-in feedstocks and antimicrobial molecules. PROMICON will use the existing microbiomes and then use them in top-down and bottom-up approaches for industrial application. This project receives funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101000733. Views and opinions expressed are those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Research Executive Agency (REA). Last week PROMICON partners attended the European Workshop on the Biology of Cyanobacteria in Spain 👏 🎙 Joan Garcia presented the discoveries of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya's team on achieving continuous #bioplastics (#PHA) production using #cyanobacteria #microbiomes. Find out more 👇
Last week, I had the opportunity to present our recent discoveries on achieving continuous #bioplastics (#PHA) production using #cyanobacteria #microbiomes at the European Workshop on the Biology of Cyanobacteria in Seville, Spain, which was attended by over 250 participants. This work is primarily the result of my PhD student, Beatriz Altamira Algarra, with valuable contributions from Artai Lage Julià, Lin Sun, and Eva Gonzalez Flo. I had the luck to meet my good friend Minmin Pan from the PROMICON project. The congress was perfectly organized by Enrique Flores and Alicia Muro-Pastor, along with their colleagues Maria F. Fillat, María José Huertas, Rocío López Igual, Luis Lopez-Maury, Ignacio Luque and Vicente Mariscal. I had the pleasure meeting remarkable people, making very good contacts. Overall, it was a nice rewarding experience, and I am very pleased with the outcomes of attending this workshop.
