On World Diabetes Day, we're celebrating the champions making a difference in the global fight against diabetes - from inspired youth to dedicated health workers to determined patients. Their stories show us how innovative education and support can transform lives. Meet Irene, a 17-year-old changemaker in Mexico City. After losing her grandmother to complications from a non-communicable disease, she joined our Young Health Program to become a health advocate in her community. Today, she's one of 1,050 young leaders across Mexico teaching peers and family members about diabetes prevention, proving that youth can lead the way to a healthier future. In rural China, dedicated health workers are transforming diabetes management through our "5 Steps to Self-Care" program. Using innovative game-based learning, 30 trained health workers have helped over 200 seniors better manage their diabetes. "Their knowledge improved, their mental well-being improved, and their family and friends asked to join the classes," shares Barbara Smith, Project HOPE Senior Program Officer. From Mexico to China, it's the people on the ground - young advocates, health workers, and community members - who are building a world where everyone has the tools to prevent and manage diabetes. https://lnkd.in/gyErr4qe #WorldDiabetesDay

Ukraine's health care system is experiencing severe strain due to the ongoing war and unstable security situation. Additionally, it faces a growing demand for medical staff, especially in frontline regions. Amid the immense challenges – such as the displacement of both patients and health workers – the remaining doctors on the frontlines have shown extraordinary dedication and resilience. In the face of increasingly dire circumstances, these medical professionals continue to provide life-saving care, often under extreme pressure and with limited resources. With support of USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance’s , Project HOPE is incentivizing medical staff by providing financial grants to ensure the continued operation of medical services at frontline facilities. This reinforces frontline health services and ensures that medical care remains accessible and effective.

Health workers show up for us every day – but how do we show up for them? Since COVID-19, burnout and mental health challenges among medical professionals have reached crisis levels. Yet many suffer in silence. We're working to change that because healers need healing too. Through our mental health and resilience training programs, we've reached over 100,000 health workers across 40+ countries, creating safe spaces for nurses, doctors, midwives, and emergency responders to prioritize their own wellbeing. Because taking care of our health workers means taking care of everyone. More on our health work work: https://lnkd.in/gwTyugms

The 5-year Rehabilitation for Ukraine (Rehab4U) project was officially launched.    Working in close partnership with the Ministry of Health, Rehab4U will bring together government agencies, non-governmental and civil society organizations, and international partners to create an effective rehabilitation system that can provide all Ukrainians in need of rehabilitation services with the appropriate level of care and support in the communities in which they live.    “The U.S. Government has long been a steadfast partner in Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its health care system, and today, this support is more essential than ever. The number of injured veterans and civilians since the start of the full-scale invasion has made strengthening rehabilitation services a priority investment for the United States,” United States Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said.    Rehab4U will promote the development of rehabilitation infrastructure making rehabilitation service available at the community level; improve standards of care, including by expanding the availability of modern assistive technologies; and enhance the skills of rehabilitation professionals. The program will also work to support social inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities so that all Ukrainians can contribute to the social and economic development of their country.    "The launch of the Rehab4U project is especially important for our country today, as the development of a modern rehabilitation system and improved access to quality services remain our top priorities," Minister of Health Viktor Liashko remarked.    "Project HOPE is pleased to join the Rehab4U project and work together with partners to ensure the quality and sustainable development of rehabilitation services in Ukraine," said Pavlo Havalko, Project Coordinator. The initiative was made possible with the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance) in partnership with Momentum Wheels for Humanity. #Rehab4U #LeaveNoOneBehind #InclusionMatters #Rehabilitation #AssistiveTechnology

The climate crisis is a health crisis that is unfolding in emergency rooms, clinics, and communities around the globe. Extreme weather is causing catastrophic conditions for patients, health workers, and particularly for people in marginalized communities worldwide. Rising temperatures, extreme storms, and the spread of infectious diseases threaten all of us. At Project HOPE, we see firsthand how the climate crisis is eroding decades of progress in global health. Investing in combatting the impacts of climate change is paramount, especially as we see it impacting the populations most at risk of its effects. Working together to address the climate crisis means working to protect global health, both today and for generations to come. The time for action is NOW. We believe — unequivocally — that forced migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, and displaced people should be treated with respect and provided access to care and support along their journey to safety without prejudice or discrimination. Throughout South and Central America, we are providing physical and mental health care to families fleeing violence, women who have been forced to go without health services, and children who need a place to rest after a long journey to their new home. We are committed to providing essential health services to anyone fleeing conflict, climate emergencies, or persecution. We stand for understanding, acceptance, and care, not only as an organization, but as members of a shared, global community.

Access to sexual, reproductive, and maternal health isn't just a necessity — it is a fundamental human right. Women and girls deserve reliable health care access, and we are committed to supporting them in their fight for essential and quality care. Around the globe, Project HOPE stands with clinic, hospital, and medical facility teams who are ensuring all patients and program participants have the care they need and deserve. Our Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child Health (RMNCH) programming spans 19 countries and is focused on providing lifesaving care and long-term support as women and girls navigate the complexities of finding and receiving care. In conflict zones, in rural areas, and in care facilities around the globe, our teams are there. Our global RMNCH team members will continue to work ceaselessly to provide women and girls with care, support, and ongoing empowerment to access what is rightfully theirs. Ukrainian ambulance teams have demonstrated extraordinary resilience and commitment since the full-scale invasion in February 2022. In two and a half years, these dedicated individuals have had to adapt quickly in the face of unprecedented difficulties, refining their skills to meet the compounding demands of their work. Their courageous efforts in the Dnipropetrovska oblast to meet the challenges of providing care in a war zone deserve special recognition. Supporting the national evacuation and emergency medical care system remains a key priority for Project HOPE.  In coordination with USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, we’ve donated three fully equipped Type C ambulances with essential medicines, fuel, repairs and maintenance.  This contribution, along with the donation of winter EMS uniforms for all ambulance crews in Dnipropetrovska oblast, was made possible through the support of the USAID’s BHA within the EACAP program.
