Second years are uniquely well positioned—they've gone through the first-year program and have a year of context and experience.     When live training is concentrated in the first few weeks of associates’ time at a firm, it can be helpful to implement a structured e-learning curriculum following the conclusion of live training. This approach supports continuous learning and skill development without overwhelming daily responsibilities, allowing associates to gradually continue to build a robust skillset, enhancing their confidence and competence. When you use e-learning as a standalone training tool, consider these three tips for a more successful implementation. #1 - Set clear deadlines While it’s important to allow flexibility, setting a deadline communicates the importance of the training and helps drive completion. #2 - Suggest a cadence Suggesting a cadence, such as completing two courses per week over six weeks, can help associates manage their time effectively and mitigate procrastination. #3 - Communicate continuously Offer repeated communications about e-learning resources throughout the associate’s first few weeks or months.     Why give your associates access to a library of e-learning on day one? So they can leverage it in their daily workflow, accessing any courses they need to confidently complete assigned work. For instance, if a senior associate asks a first year to handle signature page packets for the first time, the associate can take Praktio’s Signature Pages e-learning course before doing the task. Then, they can more effectively prepare signature pages with significantly fewer mistakes. When using e-learning as a just-in-time training tool, consider these three tips for a more successful implementation. #1 - Educate senior associates Provide seniors with demonstrations, lists of training topics, and access to the e-learning platform. This enables them to effectively guide first years to appropriate resources as needed. #2 - Integrating training with tasks Encourage seniors to routinely pair task assignments with recommended e-learning modules, embedding training directly into the workflow for maximum relevance and impact. #3 - Hold and initial kickoff A live kickoff with all associates as well as relevant stakeholders can help make the case for when and why first years should take relevant training. #elearning #biglaw #trainingtips
