It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that we announce Paul Bogart’s departure as Executive Director of Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth, effective summer 2025. Since joining us in 2011, Paul has been a pivotal force in our mission, driving significant growth and accomplishments, including: 🔹 Expanding Our Network: Under Paul’s leadership, our Practice Greenhealth partner network has grown to include 1,700 hospitals and health systems across the U.S. and Canada—representing 1 in 4 health facilities. Our global network now encompasses 2,000 members in 86 countries. 🔹 Innovating Sustainable Practices: The introduction of the Greenhealth Approved seal has empowered health care providers to identify safe, sustainable products, streamlining the purchasing process and promoting better environmental health. 🔹 Elevating Health in Climate Discussions: Our organization has been a key driver in positioning health at the forefront of climate discussions, and co-organizing landmark events and initiatives that advocate for low-carbon, climate-resilient health systems. As we prepare for this transition to a Chief Executive Officer model, we remain committed to our 2024-2026 U.S. Strategic Plan and look forward to unveiling our international network strategy. Paul reflects, “Leading this outstanding organization has been an incredible privilege. While I’m excited for my next chapter, I will deeply miss the collaboration and camaraderie with our team.” Gary Cohen, founder of Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth, adds, “We are immensely grateful for Paul’s dedication and vision. His lasting impact will continue to shape our organization as we move forward.” Over the coming months, we will conduct a thorough search for our new CEO, ensuring a stable and effective transition. Stay tuned for the job announcement and join us in celebrating Paul’s achievements.

Leana Wen M.D. M.Sc.’s piece for The Washington Post highlights Boston Medical Center (BMC)’s food prescription program, which serves about 6,800 patients, distributing 50,000 pounds of food a month. “Given that the health care sector is a major contributor to climate change, it is heartening to see leaders working to reduce the environmental harm of medical care," Wen shares. "It is doubly impressive when the efforts directly benefit patients.” At Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth, we're thrilled to partner with BMC and so many other health care organizations that are improving patient health in a way that also protects planetary health. 🌎
