What comes to mind when you hear the word “wetland”? Perhaps a low-lying area with water, surrounded by lush trees and aquatic plants? Is it still a wetland if there’s no water? In our newest “From the Trenches” video, Biologist Ethan Norsworthy guides us through a wetland delineation in North Texas, sharing how to identify a wetland using criteria like hydric soils, wetland hydrology, and hydrophytic vegetation. Curious about life “in the trenches”? One of the highlights of this summer was watching Team USA compete for gold in the Paris Olympic Games. This inspired our Fort Worth Transmission Line Office to #engineer our very own POWER Office Olympic Games. 🥇 It was a silly and fun-filled event that brought out the competitive spirit in all of us. At #POWER, there's never a dull moment, and we love finding creative ways to build team camaraderie. 🤝 https://lnkd.in/gZZAbGgT 📸: Meghan Schroeder #Engineering #Hiring

#POWER Spotlights are back, and today, we’re featuring rock star engineer Justin Amie. Since joining our Facilities division as an Electrical Engineer two and half years ago, Justin's determination, ability to learn, and creativity have been an excellent addition to the team. Determination might be Justin's greatest strength, and his journey to POWER reflects that. He applied for multiple positions at POWER before getting hired and notes the company culture as the reason for his persistence. "I’ve always admired the culture at POWER. When I spoke with recruiters at Boise State career fairs, their enthusiasm and stories about working here were inspiring. The idea of doing what you love while tackling exciting, complex projects resonated with me. I knew this was where I wanted to be from the beginning." POWER's supportive environment has been significant in Justin’s growth as an engineer. He credits colleagues and mentors like Zachary Briggs and Ron Wilson for their support and allowing him to always be himself. They not only helped him deepen his industry knowledge to become a subject matter expert but also guided his growth into leadership roles across various project areas, which led to Justin's promotion to Electrical Engineer II in July! "The people on my team are like family. We can always be ourselves, and there isn't a fear of asking a basic question in front of the group. I feel comfortable hanging out with my team outside the office, and I haven't always had that luxury in my career." One of Justin's favorite parts of being an engineer is the constant learning and the uniqueness of each project. He enjoys creating custom solutions, even when the answers aren't always straightforward. That was apparent when he worked on a lightning protection project for one of our clients. "I had never worked on a lightning protection system before, so it was a great opportunity for me to learn. I had just started at POWER, and I appreciated that the team had faith in me to immediately work on such a complex project for a high-priority client. That project showed me that I still had a lot to learn before becoming the engineer that I hope to be and that I have the people around me to help me get there." #Engineering
