We’re a global design firm with colleagues spanning four continents. Working with communities of all sizes and using a range of disciplines, we create experiences that amplify the joy felt in shared human moments.
Delve into our interactive “Live Emotion” gallery to explore some of the most iconic venues across sport, live performances and other major global events from the past 40 years. Our unique design history has acted as the backdrop for much bigger stories and moments — those of community, sustainability and passion — for four decades and counting. As we commemorate this milestone, we want to say thank you and celebrate with you, the individuals across the world who fill these venues with the emotion that gives them meaning.

At Populous, we recognize that shaping the future of architecture goes beyond our immediate projects — it’s about investing in the next generation of designers and thinkers. As we celebrate World Architecture Day, we’re proud of the meaningful partnerships we’ve built across the globe, whether with schools, universities, academic institutions, or other organizations dedicated to that mission.
In the UK, Populous is proud to partner with Blueprint for All, a charity that aims to help young people of diverse ethnic heritage pursue a career in architecture. Our support includes a bursary scheme donation, mentoring, workshops and site visits.
The built environment can be a very difficult industry for new talent to break into, especially for those of diverse ethnic heritage. A study produced by ARB in 2022 showed that Black or Black British people are underrepresented on the Register, accounting for only 1% of architects, while making up 4% of the UK population. Asian or Asian British people also remain underrepresented, accounting for 8% of architects while comprising 9% of the UK population.
At a recent site visit to the newly opened Co-op Live arena in Manchester, participants looking to break into the built environment were able to see the inner workings of the sector and had the unique opportunity to witness a large-scale architecture project come to life.
Through mentorship, workshops and facilitating conversations with established professionals, Populous is proud to support aspiring students and graduates on their journey to becoming the architects of the future.

We're thrilled to share that Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, has been named one of the World's Most Beautiful Sports Venues by the Prix Versailles. This award was given to only six sports venues globally for signs of exceptional architecture and design.
Gillette Stadium has solidified its position as a regional landmark; a destination in and of itself, regardless of season, time of day or scheduled events. We are honored to see it celebrated on the world's stage. Learn more about the design of the stadium here: https://bit.ly/3XIZRnD
In 2025, the WNBA will welcome the Golden State Valkyries — the first women’s professional basketball team in the Bay Area — and first expansion to the league since 2010.
We are proud to have designed two state-of-the-art facilities for the Golden State Valkyries, including a dedicated Locker Room at Chase Center and a Valkyries Practice Facility in Oakland.
During their 2025 debut at Chase Center, the Valkyries will share the 18,000+ capacity indoor arena in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. The Populous-designed Valkyries Locker Room will serve as the team’s headquarters on home game days. It encompasses 6,800-square feet of world-class amenities including a training room, player lounge and dining areas, and separate offices for coaches, player development and medical staff purpose-built specifically for the players of the WNBA’s Bay Area franchise.
