  • Design has the power to foster connection and inspire joy — and it’s in the physical spaces where we gather that the most meaningful interactions take root. If you visited one of our venues in 2024, thank you. We’re passionate about our work because of the unforgettable moments it makes space for. Here’s to the next year of drawing people together. Learn more about the BMO Centre, Co-op Live and Venetian Arena. BMO Centre - Calgary, Alberta The BMO Centre is a reflection of Calgary’s identity. Inspired by the city’s culture and the spirit of the Calgary Stampede, we designed a space where modern architecture meets western heritage. The gleaming copper panels and dramatic canopy evoke a connection to the city’s roots while allowing a bold vision for its future. Co-op Live - Manchester, United Kingdom Co-op Live is the UK’s first large-scale arena designed specifically for live music. Every element of its design, from the 23,500-seat ‘smart bowl’ layout to the state-of-the-art acoustics, was created to prioritize the fan experience. As the first venue of its kind, it sets a new benchmark for performance spaces, combining innovative technology with thoughtful design to deliver unparalleled intimacy and impact at any scale. Venetian Arena - Macau, China Renovated in 2024, the Venetian Arena is a state-of-the-art, multipurpose venue tailored for live entertainment, sports, and e-sports. Enhanced VIP amenities, flexible configurations, and cutting-edge technology cement its status as Macau’s premier destination for world-class events.

  • 2024 was a year of stories — of spaces brought to life and communities brought together. Each project we opened this year, from arenas to convention centers, carries with it a narrative unique to its place, yet universal in its purpose: to draw people together. Learn more about the stories behind GMHBA Stadium, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium and London Stadium. GMHBA Stadium – Geelong, Australia Celebrating 25 years of partnership with Kardinia Park, we completed the final stage of GMHBA Stadium’s master plan with the 14,000-seat Joel Selwood Stand. Now seating over 40,000, the stadium honors Geelong’s identity and cements its status as Australia’s premier regional venue. London Stadium Rooftop Solar Initiative – London, United Kingdom Originally designed by Populous for the 2012 Olympics, London Stadium continues to innovate. Recent upgrades enhance its efficiency and sustainability, ensuring it remains a global benchmark for sports and entertainment venues. Nassau County International Cricket Stadium – East Meadow, New York, USA Built for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, this 34,000-seat modular stadium set a new standard for cricket. Featuring repurposed materials, sustainable design, and premium hospitality, it delivered a world-class experience for fans from around the globe.

  • At Populous, design is the act of storytelling. This year’s chapters have spanned the globe, reminding us of the profound impact the spaces we design have not just on the cities they serve, but on the lives they touch. In this week leading up to 2025, we’ll be highlighting some of the remarkable projects that opened in 2024 and the stories behind them. Together, we are drawing people together – one story, one venue and one community at a time.  Read more about the 2024 Paris Olympics, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Osborne Legacy Complex and Kansai International Airport.  Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Paris, France The Summer Olympics are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the human spirit. In Paris, our work supported an Olympic Games that not only uplifted the world but also left a lasting impact on the city and its people. University of Nebraska-Lincoln Osborne Legacy Complex – Lincoln, Nebraska, USA The Osborne Legacy Complex blends cutting-edge design with Nebraska’s deep traditions. More than a training facility, it honors the Huskers’ legacy while inspiring future greatness. Kansai International Airport – Osaka, Japan Built on an artificial island in Osaka Bay, Kansai International Airport is one of the world’s most iconic transport hubs. Populous’ recent overhaul ensures its long-term growth by optimizing infrastructure and enhancing efficiency.

  • Populous is all about people. From the places we design to the experiences created – our projects are filled with people who love to be together. But we couldn’t do this without a diverse team that brings different ideas and ways of thinking to each space we shape across such different cultures, including in the Asia Pacific (APAC). As we celebrate the end of 2024, we wanted to also celebrate our people and the cites they call home. In this blog, our colleagues across each of our APAC offices, share their local design perspectives and how they’ve found their place at Populous. Their voices illustrate a blend of international knowledge and local culture that brings their ideas to life to help shape the cities they call home.
