About us
The Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from a substance use disorder and for those who choose to live sober. By participating in our physical, social and educational programs, participants build confidence, self-respect, and community. Activities offered include CrossFit, climbing, hiking, boxing, running, yoga, road & mountain biking, and strength training. Through traditional fundraising strategies and revenue-generating ventures, Phoenix is able to provide free programs for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety.

On why she's excited to work at The Phoenix: " I've seen firsthand the power that physical movement and supportive community can have to foster healing from trauma and adverse experiences. I love what The Phoenix is doing to reduce stigma around substance misuse and mental health and build supportive communities for anyone in recovery. I'm grateful and excited to apply my skills and experience in grant writing and fundraising to help grow this powerful movement alongside such a wonderful team." We are glad you're here Bethany!

The Phoenix reposted this
Social entrepreneur and sober athlete. CNN Hero. Founder of The Phoenix. Author of Rise. Recover. Thrive., available Jan. 7.
Exciting news: I wrote a book! Rise. Recover. Thrive. tells my life story, from struggling with addiction to founding The Phoenix. I think of it as “a memoir with a mission.” In sharing my story, I hope to empower anyone struggling with substance use to thrive in sobriety–and to offer insights and hope to their loved ones. With more than 48 million Americans living with substance use disorders, the need to change our approach to addiction and recovery has never been clearer. Together, we can all thrive. #RiseRecoverThrive will be available Jan. 7, 2025. Learn more: https://a.co/d/77yW9QI

Thank you Melissa DeStefano for sharing your incredible story!
By age 22, Melissa had been arrested 5 times, caught in a vicious cycle of heroin use and crime. Now, she’s several years sober and uplifting other Americans all around the country to find their paths to lasting recovery:

Is your organization a safe place for people in recovery or those who are looking for alternatives to substances? “A lot more people are what I call ‘sober-curious'... Not only is this being informed by big health agenda going on, but people are increasingly wanting ‘real’ connections with the colleagues, not alcohol-driven ones.” https://lnkd.in/grRUhKPE
Could your workplace become ‘sober curious’?

Meet Aaron Gorder! From leading and supporting hikes, indoor rock climbing, and arts & craft, Aaron has been an outstanding volunteer in Boise, Idaho. Aaron's weekly hikes have been a huge hit with the community and he has impacted 216 team members directly since joining The Phoenix as a volunteer in March. We're thrilled that Aaron has recently completed his Wilderness First Responder certification and is ready to utilize his new skills in service of the community. Aaron says: "These experiences have given me a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment, reminding me of the importance of community support in healing and thriving. The joy and camaraderie I experience here are invaluable, both personally and as a part of a larger mission." #riserecoverlive https://lnkd.in/gPpDJt-A

“Every September we observe National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate millions of Americans who every day find the strength and courage to reclaim their lives from substance use and mental health conditions.... Recovery is real, and it transforms not just the lives of individuals in recovery, but also their families, friends, and others who support them.” https://lnkd.in/e_tjm-zk
