Egg-cellent news alert! The FDA has confirmed what we’ve always known: eggs are healthy! This recognition highlights their role as a versatile, nutrient-rich food that fuels both body and mind. Who’s ready to embrace this new era of healthy eating with us? #Sustainability #Health #Nutrition
I am thrilled to share the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today updated its labeling definition, under which eggs now officially qualify as a healthy food! This is a long-awaited vindication and validation of what we’ve known for decades, and what the science tells us: Eggs are a nutrient-rich, versatile food that make healthy eating simple for Americans’ busy lives. This is a historic moment for eggs that closes the door on decades of debate over whether eggs are good for you. This new rule not only means egg farmers will be able to unequivocally state “eggs are healthy” in consumer education and marketing efforts, but it also resets egg’s health and nutrition narrative. This FDA announcement comes at a time when consumers are seeking foods that support their well-being and health goals. AEB’s recent consumer research indicates that when consumers know the various benefits of the nutrients in eggs, including their support of heart health, brain health, muscle health and more, it boosts their intent to purchase eggs. This represents a big opportunity to affirm eggs’ role in supporting healthy lifestyles, with the FDA healthy definition providing a signal that guides consumers and puts eggs in good company with other healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. In the coming months and year, the American Egg Board will move boldly to support public awareness and understanding of egg’s “healthy” status. You’re going to see content shared on IncredibleEgg.org, Incredible Egg and Egg Nutrition Center social channels, with additional updates to come in the new year. I am confident that embracing this new era for eggs will open avenues for growth and innovation with our retail, foodservice and B2B partners. We will continue to bring this new healthy designation into our marketing and educational efforts, celebrating the nutritional goodness of eggs. And we look forward to collaborating with our producers and trade partners as we use this opportunity to continue bringing the best, high-quality and HEALTHY eggs to Americans’ tables every day.
