Pediatrix® Medical Group’s intensivists provide child-specific critical care medicine to children in pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) across the country. Our highly trained team of physicians, critical care nurses and respiratory therapists partners with family members, primary care physicians and others to deliver safe, effective care. Eric Norman, M.D., a pediatric critical care physician with Pediatrix Critical Care of Florida, explains, “It’s like the crew on a ship. The captain ultimately makes the decisions and has the most responsibility, but he or she can’t run the whole ship alone. Similarly, everyone here has an important role, and patients benefit the most when the team functions well together.” https://brnw.ch/21wMjtx

When prepping bottles and sippy cups, you want to avoid foodborne illnesses at all costs as they’re especially dangerous to little ones. The best way to do that? Practice safe handling to prevent contamination. Our Dr. Jenelle Ferry, board-certified neonatologist and director of feeding, nutrition and infant development at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida, joined Care to share tips on how to safely manage breast milk and formula >> https://brnw.ch/21wLI3N.

Triple the birthday fun! The DeArmond family of west Texas recently celebrated a major milestone for their preemie triplets. Dutton, Rainey and Rowyn, who were born prematurely at 27 weeks and spent several months in the NICU, turned one. Our Dr. Melissa Piepkorn, neonatologist and medical director at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Texas, cared for the triplets together with her team. She and mom Laci sat down with KAMC News to reflect on the special bond they formed and how far the triplets have come since their time in the NICU. https://brnw.ch/21wLKmj

Women's Equality Day is a day to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment, which prohibits all states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States based on sex. However, millions of women continued to be confronted with discriminatory legislation with African American women being the last to receive the right to vote in August 1965, when the Voting Rights Act was signed into law. This prohibited racial discrimination in voting, thus finally granting all women in the United States the right to vote. On this Women's Equality Day, while we recognize there is still more work to be done, we celebrate the progress women have made to gain equal rights and opportunities.

We wish a very happy first birthday to Kane Nash, who was born at 23 weeks weighing just 15 ounces, less than a pound. He was an unexpected blessing as mom Amber didn’t think she could have children after overcoming ovarian cancer. Following a six month stay in the NICU, Kane has defied all odds and is thriving. Our Dr. Lisa McGill-Vargas, neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Eastern Washington, cared for Kane together with her team. She and Amber sat down with KHQ Local News to reflect on Kane’s miraculous journey as they celebrate this special milestone. https://brnw.ch/21wLKm8
