Yielding is not an option if we want to undo the systemic damage that keeps people from opportunity and abundance. At PEAK, we believe that spurring philanthropy to drive toward racial equity and make transformational shifts to better serve disadvantaged people and communities begins with us. 2023 was a year of organizational growth and evolution. We advanced along our equity journey, leaned into the practice of emergent learning, sharpened our strategy, and deepened our commitment to be a people-centered workplace. 📣 NEW UPCOMING WORKSHOP 📣 The increasing burnout concerns in the nonprofits sector 😥 and the national call to focus on workers' wellbeing 🧐 (sources below) are shifting the social sector into a new era of leadership. This new leadership paradigm will require leaders to explore the behaviors, values and belief systems that are no longer serving us. Unlearning these practices before learning to embody new leadership qualities and values will allow us to make the most sustainable meaningful impact. SoCal Grantmakers (SCG) and Con Fuerza Experiences are partnering to bring you a transformative two-hour workshop that explores a new leadership paradigm, a roadmap for leadership development that allows leaders to embrace their full potential while centering collective well-being, community, and a thriving organizational culture. We will engage in a reflective dialogue with visionary Philanthropic leaders, Satonya Fair, JD from PEAK Grantmaking, Joe Lumarda from Capital Group Private Client Services and Belen Vargas from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, to collectively explore the behaviors, habits and belief systems that are no longer sustainable to make the most meaningful impact. Participants will also engage in reflective exercises to explore their leadership journey and learn new ways to embody a more sustainable leadership approach. This program is brought to you by evolve, SCG's suite of programming championing transformational leadership. We are looking forward to bringing our community together in New Orleans next March for #PEAK2025nola! Together, we'll learn how to lead with courage and boldly move toward a future where justice and equity prevail. Last year, we were delighted by the record-breaking reception our sponsorship packages received and look forward to another year of radical support for our convening and community from our members and partners. We invite you to demonstrate your commitment to equitable grantmaking and the PEAK community of change agents by supporting PEAK2025 through an institutional sponsorship. Whether through a grant or sponsorship, supporters provide the necessary funding to ensure we have what is needed to build our community and learn together at PEAK2025. Learn all about sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities in our new guide, Supporting PEAK2025.

PEAK Northern Plains hosted a virtual book club to discuss To Banish Forever by Cathy Coats. The book explores the largely untold story of the Ho-Chunk Nation’s exile from Minnesota, in which local white residents sought to expel all Indigenous people from the region and deny Native claims to some of the richest farmland in the world. Participants had a thoughtful conversation on cultural erasure and how the history of an area can affect community needs for many generations after experiencing trauma. They also discussed philanthropy’s role in recognizing and reconciling past wrongs in our communities. PEAK Northern California and PEAK Southern California held a workshop on PEAK’s Steward Responsively Principle led by PEAK’s Vanessa Elkan and Lita Ugarte Pardi and Ascendium Education Group Director of Grants Management Nikki Wachter. The session focused on reframing risk, improving nonprofit vetting practices, and aligning internal vetting processes with desired risk profiles. Delaware Art Museum Executive Director Molly Giordano, SUNDAY LOVE PROJECT Executive Director Margaux Murphy, and Ordinarie Heroes Executive Director Ron Toles, were part of a recent PEAK Delaware Valley event. Together, they discussed enlightening funders on the intricacies of nonprofit organizations in order to enhance their support and understanding of these vital entities.
