    Employee Experience Strategy | Designing a more engaging employee experience that puts people first.

    A client called us up asking for etiquette training for their summer interns. Things were going well but they were surprised at the lack of basic behaviors in the office. Could I please come out and teach these students some etiquette? My first thought: OMG, I'll look so old/uncool! The youths will see right through my attempts at professionalism and rake me over the coals. Who wants someone 20 years older telling them to be polite?! 💀 Then I immediately snapped back to my brand experience skills. While "etiquette" feels stodgy and formal, "personal brand" and "values" don't. They're actionable. So I reframed the conversation and created our training on identifying your personal brand at the office. 👀How do you show up? That's the question. We introduce 3 keys to building your personal brand at work: Engagement, etiquette (it's in there, just not the whole), and confidentiality/privacy. After we analyze those, we lead the group in discussing personal values like respect, curiosity, and resilience and ask where they've seen those modeled during their internship. This is where it starts to sink in. "Listen in meetings" becomes "curiosity" which becomes "I want to be like my coworker who uses meetings to become more knowledgeable on topics outside her skillset. I go to her for all my questions and I admire her for that knowledge." Now we have someone who wants to embody values AND doesn’t steal lunches from the office fridge! 💡 Honestly, it's not just for interns. We could all use a reminder that our behaviors can impact our opportunities and show our respect for one another. #personalbrand #internshiptraining #employeedevelopment
