Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latine Americans. This year’s theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.” It highlights the significant economic, political, and social contributions of the Hispanic community, emphasizing their role in shaping the future of the nation. In honor of this year’s theme, we’re excited to share and celebrate Mexican American physicist Albert Vinicio Báez, who co-invented the X-ray reflection microscope with Stanford physics professor Paul Kirkpatrick in 1948. The Báez X-ray reflection microscope uses X-rays to produce enlarged images of small or distant objects. The device has been used to examine living cells and to study galaxies. Thanks to Báez’s pioneering contributions, his creation opened the branch of X-ray optics we now know and rely on today.

Book bans are denying women access to basic health education. In over 20 states, thousands of women's health and anatomy books are banned from prisons. This forces incarcerated women to decipher what's happening in their own bodies and puts them at higher risk of dying from preventable, treatable conditions. To fight this dangerous censorship, we partnered with the Claremont Forum and a contact inside to develop a women's health textbook that sneaks past these book bans. Learn how we did it, and see how you can support contrabanned.us at: https://lnkd.in/gAW6UksF
