Advancing Responsible AI
About us
Partnership on AI (PAI) is a non-profit partnership of academic, civil society, industry, and media organizations creating solutions so that AI advances positive outcomes for people and society. By convening diverse, international stakeholders, we seek to pool collective wisdom to make change. We are not a trade group or advocacy organization. We develop tools, recommendations, and other resources by inviting voices from across the AI community and beyond to share insights that can be synthesized into actionable guidance. We then work to drive adoption in practice, inform public policy, and advance public understanding. Through dialogue, research, and education, PAI is addressing the most important and difficult questions concerning the future of AI. Our mission is to bring diverse voices together across global sectors, disciplines, and demographics so developments in AI advance positive outcomes for people and society.

A little over two weeks ago I represented Intuit at Partnership on AI's annual Policy Forum. I've been meaning to share my takeaways, but it's been challenging to distill everything into a tidy post. More than anything, the forum rekindled my interest in policy, which I'll admit I've felt distanced from since I left the transportation world four years ago and dove into the worlds of personal finance and Responsible AI. Now working at the cross-section of AI, data governance, and technology, I feel more connected to the policy world than ever. At the forum, I was struck by the convergence of discussions around AI and climate in particular, which of course intersects with transportation in the bigger picture. Because of this, the forum reinforced for me that when it comes to technology and policy, everything is increasingly connected, and nothing is in a silo. I'm also incredibly grateful for several new connections that I hope will continue to grow and flourish. I definitely don't take this face time for granted anymore!

As governments worldwide develop policies for AI foundation models, coordination is critical to avoid a fragmented regulatory landscape. Our latest report, Policy Alignment on AI Transparency, analyzes eight leading policy frameworks for foundation models, with a particular focus on documentation requirements. The report offers recommendations to promote interoperability as policy frameworks are built out, ensuring a common baseline for accountability and transparency best practices. By working together across borders and sectors, we can create a more coherent, effective approach to managing the risks and harnessing the potential of foundation models. When it comes to #AIGenerated media, what do audiences deserve to know? How should this information be conveyed, and by whom, to support truth and trust online? During an election year, these questions are particularly crucial. Building on PAI's Synthetic Media Framework, we'll be releasing a new set of cases later this year focused on labels, content overlays, and other forms of direct disclosure. Here's a sneak peek at some of the emerging themes we've seen so far. ⤵️ Read the full blog for more details and stay tuned for our upcoming case studies: https://lnkd.in/g5dB-g6Q

A fantastic 2 weeks for Partnership on AI in New York during #UNGA, and regionally in Europe, as we kick off our contribution to the European Union's AI Code of Practice development. On Sept 20, we held PAI’s second AI Policy Forum ahead of the United Nations Summit of the Future. See our agenda in the comments below, which covered themes linked to the UN Global Digital Compact and global interoperability, including what we want to achieve between now and the France AI Action Summit in February 2025. A heartfelt thank you to all the sponsors, speakers, attendees, and PAI colleagues! 💥 At the Forum we announced a forthcoming policy report on the interoperability of global documentation requirements, including recommendations for the G7, the EU, and Network of Institutes etc. Stay tuned! Many thanks to PAI’s Policy Steering Committee for all their advice and insights in support. The Forum left the community with key insights into the current governance landscape, its gaps and opportunities. For example, I was pleased to see the UN Scientific Panel announcement, and at the Forum we discussed important questions about how it will work alongside existing initiatives. What does an interoperable and aligned global ecosystem look like, which prioritizes the interests of people and society? 🌍🏛️ This week, the kick off for the EU Code of Practice was well timed 🇪🇺 - and we’re pleased to share that PAI will be part of the Code of Practice process, building on our research work. Look forward to working with colleagues over the coming months on this important initiative!
