Mortgage Bankers Association forecasts a 26% increase in commercial/multifamily borrowing and lending in 2024. Total borrowing and lending is expected to finish 2024 at $539 billion, up from 2023’s total of $429 billion. Multifamily lending alone (which is included in the total figures) is expected to rise to $297 billion this year – a 21% increase from last year’s estimate of $246 billion. MBA anticipates borrowing and lending next year will increase to $665 billion in total commercial real estate lending, with $390 billion of that total in multifamily lending. Jamie Woodwell, MBA’s Head of Commercial Real Estate Research said, "The recent moderation in interest rates, coupled with the large volume of loans maturing in coming quarters, should prompt an uptick in mortgage borrowing from the low levels we’ve seen over the last two years." #CRE #lending #borrowing https://hubs.la/Q02NKPpd0

Here's some positive economic news. The U.S. Department of Commerce reported today that the economy grew at a 3% annual pace during Q2 2024. That's above the prior estimate of 2.8%. Consumer spending was a key contributor, reaching a 2.9% annual growth rate, and business investment rose at a 7.5% rate.
