What a day of service! Last week, a group of parks lovers who were visiting from out of town joined us for a volunteer event at June Elois Mundy Park in Vine City! These parks and recreation professionals were in town for the National Recreation and Park Association, hosted in Atlanta this year. And they came ready to get sweaty! With help from Trees Atlanta, the volunteers planted 24 trees, including maples, oaks, sycamores and more, and added plantings to the Rain Garden to help manage erosion and water flow. We even planted an Eastern Red Cedar (which resembles a Christmas tree) that the community plans to decorate for the holidays! ✨ A big thank you to our visiting volunteers for helping steward and beautify this beloved Atlanta park! What fun! This afternoon, Park Pride hosted the 19th annual Park Workers Picnic to show appreciation for the hardworking and dedicated folks at the City of Atlanta Department of Parks & Recreation. We enjoyed some BBQ, played games, had raffle giveaways and even hit the dance floor! Atlanta DPR, we appreciate all that y'all do! 👏 Thank you to our partners who helped make this event possible! Fall is here, y'all! We could not have asked for better weather this morning at our Second Friday Walk in the Park at Lang-Carson Park. This Friends group has been highly engaged with Park Pride and the Reynoldstown neighborhood, and is now in its third and final phase of major park improvements with a new playground on the way! The four-acre park is filled to the brim with recreation — including two play spaces, a tennis/pickleball court, a field and a basketball court. This is also a favorite spot for local skaters of all ages, especially with the pavilion providing cover from the sun and rain. There are countless community events held in this small but mighty park, including a farmers market, yoga, neighborhood festivals, games and more. Thank you to the Friends of Lang Carson Park for hosting us! A shout-out to Councilmember Liliana Bakhtiari for joining us this morning and for being such a champion of parks in District 5. If you haven't visited Lang-Carson, this is definitely a park worth checking out. Join us next time on Friday, November 8 at 9 a.m. to explore Chastain Park's new Northwood Trails!

With school back in full swing, so is Sprouting Readers. Emory student volunteers are engaging with K-3rd graders to promote reading and well-being at the Sara J. González Memorial Park on Saturday afternoons. At each session, children read with volunteers, participate in interactive hands-on activities and receive a book to take home. Three years ago, Park Pride connected Sprouting Readers to Isabel González Whitaker, who designed and opened SJG Park to honor her mother, a leading immigrant rights advocate in the Southeast!
