About us

Parents of Trans Youth provides learning, support, and community to parents and caregivers of transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse kids. Transgender and gender non-conforming kids flourish when they feel safe and loved both in their own homes and out in the world. Parental understanding and education are key to affirmation, inclusion, and celebration. Parents of Trans Youth shares practical solutions and relevant information for parents and allies of transgender youth, treating this subject with the appropriate respect, passion, and joy. Parents of Trans Youth knows that many parents are hungry for additional learning to support their kids they best they can. Additionally, many allies want to welcome and affirm transgender kids in their homes and other spaces and are eager to equip themselves with knowledge. Even though parents and allies have their own paths of learning and growth, Parents of Trans Youth centers transgender and gender non-conforming kids in the story. Parents of Trans Youth offers an online course and short-term, individual support to parents of transgender kids. We also provide educational presentations on how to support trans kids at home and out in the world.

  • Check out Episode 11 of the Everyday Trans Activism podcast: Honoring racial and gender identities with Dr. Julius Joi Johnson-Weaver "We can't practice in a silo. I have these identities, and I want to inspire people. So I'm going to go full force with letting you know who I am so that you can see yourself. Some people may say, well, why would you do that? But I get affirmation from people who need it." Listen now: https://lnkd.in/gKmpwBgd

  • Everyday Trans Activism episode 10 with Emily Pesce of Joon is live! “When you get past the fear and everything else, and you see as a parent that you're enabling an environment that allows your kid to be themselves and to live in that and find the joy in that and you see the brightness shine out of them in whatever way it does. There's nothing more satisfying than that as a parent. That's the opportunity.” Emily Pesce is CEO of Joon, whose mission is to make mental healthcare and well-being broadly accessible and effective for 13 to 26-year-olds. She has over 20 years of operating and investing experience with a focus on growing businesses and their teams from inception to broad scale. Emily is transgender and believes deeply in building and empowering, diverse, and inclusive teams. Earlier this week, I spoke at the candlelight vigil for Nex Benedict in Austin: “I know many parents of trans and nonbinary youth are hurting right now. You're terrified for your children. You’re heartbroken. You’re angry. For some parents, this was a very real wake-up call about the bullying, harassment, and violence that transgender people face every day. And sometimes it’s hard to envision a future story for our kids. But then I see a gathering like tonight, and all of your beautiful faces. I see your power, your visibility, your very real love for each other. The love in the trans community gives me hope for my kids’ future. Because I know that when I’m not there to protect them, their chosen family will be.” You can read the entirety of my remarks in the latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/gx6tYKd8
