As we count down to #COP16, the biodiversity COP, we're sharing stories from our projects and work around the world where we're putting biodiversity at the forefront. The reality is that we cannot restore nature at the scale required to solve the biodiversity and climate crisis without including smallholder farmers. Sharing benefits with all stakeholders involved in restoration projects is critical and we're sharing a guide on how to do so sustainably. Announced today! We're partnering with Respira International to launch two new funds: Respira Carbon 2 and Vivair. Together, our goal is to set a new benchmark for transparency, quality, and impact monitoring in the voluntary carbon market. Respira International is an impact-driven carbon finance business, operating with an innovative offtake and profit-share model that reinvests back into project stakeholders. The collaboration will raise funds to invest in global projects focused on nature-based solutions such as forest conservation, blue carbon, reforestation, and sustainable land use. These efforts will provide capital to create, and scale, the world’s best nature-based carbon removal and reduction projects. Last week our Washington D.C. office hosted an event for the US-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC), of which we recently became a member. The theme of the event was “Advancing Social Policy: Collaborating on Workforce Development and Social Initiatives” and attendees included a high-level government delegation from Ukraine. Both Nadiia Khomaziuk, the Executive Director of the USUBC, and Palladium’s Clint Cavanaugh spoke at the event, and the delegation from Ukraine presented the Ministry of Social Policy’s plans and key priorities for 2025, including their role in workforce development, veteran support, and ongoing programs for the protection and reintegration of Ukrainian children, including efforts to restore and build care and advocacy systems. At the conclusion of the event, the delegation presented Palladium with a Ukrainian flag with a map of the country drawn by children in a foster family, that had received support as part of the government reform efforts as a thank you for hosting the event. #USUBC | #Ukraine | #Development | #SocialPolicy

How can you use $35 million of USAID funding to mobilize $650 million of private sector investment? It's not a pipe dream. For our Kenya Investment Mechanism (KIM) program, it was a reality achieved over its five year lifespan. As this year's UNGA meetings wrap up, Palladium co-CEO Ricardo Michel MBA, CPA shares the story and how programs like KIM can help achieve the SDGs in the Professional Services Council publication, "American Development Companies: Addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals." A new short film by Colm Haughey, “The Other Hidden People”, features the stories of Elie Enock and Ken Kahu, two ni-Vanuatu para-athletes who are also workers with our Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme. In partnership with the Vanuatu Paralympic Committee and PacificAus Sports, the film celebrates the many ‘hidden people’ who have committed their time and resources to ensure ni-Vanuatu para-athletes achieve their dreams, on and off the field. And to cap it off? Elie and Ken recently participated in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris! #Paralympics | #ShortFilm | #PositiveImpact

Earlier this month, our Stabilization team took part in the 12th annual PeaceCon 2024 in the Washington, DC area. Organised by the Alliance for Peacebuilding and the United States Institute of Peace, it was attended by peacebuilders, donors, scientists, government executives and implementing partners to discuss and reflect upon the conference's theme: "Status Quo No More: Building Peace in the Time of Rising Violent Conflict." The conference's goals were to: advance the peacebuilding field, showcase new programs, break down silos between sectors, forge new partnerships with donors and policymakers, and put peace at the forefront of public discourse. We hosted a panel discussing lessons learned from the T3R PILARES project funded by USAID OTI and entitled “Lessons from Ecuador: Shaping Social Cohesion as a Crime and Violence Reduction Strategy.” Featuring a lively conversation about the team’s work in Quito, the panel was moderated by PILARES Chief of Party Juan Pablo Castro and brought together the USAID - Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI), a Quito municipal security official, and representatives from two local partners advancing social cohesion in Quito and beyond.
