For the second consecutive year, Pacific Gas and Electric Company was awarded the HIRE Vets Gold Medallion Award by the U.S. Department of Labor. The honor recognizes the company’s exceptional achievement in veteran employment while exhibiting #patriotism and recognition of the values veterans bring to the workplace. A prime example of PG&E’s support of #veterans is the nationally-recognized #PowerPathway training program—of the more than 1,300 program graduates, more than 40% are veterans. Pacific Gas and Electric Company's EVP Carla Peterman, corporate affairs and chief sustainability officer, had a chance to sit down with NYSE’s Floor Talk host Judy Khan Shaw during Climate Week in New York City last month. Carla discussed PG&E’s commitment to a #netzero carbon energy system by 2040 and what it’s doing to get there — including reducing its own #greenhousegas emissions and preparing to support more #EVs with new infrastructure to help our customers reduce their own climate footprints. “We need to think globally but act locally,” said Carla. PG&E has been honored with the E Source Achievement in Employee Experience for our innovative Joy at Work program. By focusing on helping coworkers feel loved, known, proud, and joyful, we saw a 12% increase in employee favorability scores from 2022 to 2023, and we’re not stopping there. One key to the improvement is a recognition program rewarding coworkers who are creating joy among their own teams. We believe a culture of joyful coworkers is key to creating joyful customer experiences. We sincerely thank E Source for acknowledging PG&E’s dedication to fostering a joyful environment.

New speakers announced for PG&E’s 2024 Innovation Summit presented in collaboration with DISTRIBUTECH plus the list of participants in our technology showcase just dropped! Per Quinn Nakayama, PG&E Senior Director, GRID Innovation: “We are proud to work with leading companies to drive impact across our system with minimal impact to customer bills … Other utilities’ challenges of tomorrow are PG&E’s realities of today, so I look forward to engaging at the summit to share ideas, and – in the spirit of mutual aid and support – I strongly encourage my utility peers across the county to join us in-person on Nov. 13 in San Jose.” Artificial intelligence for nuclear power generation, carbon-sequestering biochar, long-duration energy storage, submetering and managed charging for electric vehicles, real-time fault detection sensors, a prescribed-burn machine, advanced drones for system inspections, and new undergrounding systems are among the novel solutions and technologies that will be on display in San Jose on 11/13. It's a who’s who of the energy-tech, fire-tech and climate-tech industries! A Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is a wildfire-prevention tool of last resort that PG&E uses when extreme climate conditions exist. Once weather improves, our crews patrol the lines to make sure that they are free of damage and hazards. www.pgecurrents.com During this PSPS event, crews identified wind-related damage on three circuits and made necessary repairs before restoration could proceed. In this video, PG&E’s Scott Strenfel, Sr. Director, Meteorology and Fire Science shows how we run a fire-simulation model using high-tech tools from Technosylva for every location where damage or hazards are found during patrols. It’s important to note that the fire-spread modeling does not account for any form of suppression, but in the conditions and location in the North Bay where damage was found during the PSPS patrols, the model indicated that there could have been a 13,000-acre fire damaging or destroying more than 630 structures. We know how impactful shutting off the power is to customers, but it’s instances like this that give us confidence PSPS is an important tool to keep our hometowns safe.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company #coworkers who departed two weeks ago to provide #mutualassistance support following Hurricanes #Helene and #Milton are on their way home. In #Florida alone, PG&E crews logged over 15,000 hours as they made #repairs and #restored #customers. “Seeing our blue trucks, which a lot of people call the sea of blue. I call them the blue angels. And I’ve heard this sentiment expressed to us while we were in Florida. I’m extremely proud of the work our crews did, and they did it safely. And I’m also grateful to the teams back home who also stepped up to make sure there were no gaps in our service to our hometowns. I have so much gratitude for all, including the families and friends who have been so supportive of our response to the call for help in Georgia and Florida,” said Sumeet Singh, P.E., EVP Operations and Chief Operating Officer.
