Pacific Gas and Electric Company crews are now in #CentralFlorida. After working for several days in #Georgia, PG&E crews helped make repairs and established #restoration efforts to Georgia Power Company #customers who lost power during #HurricaneHelene. About 400 #electric workers/support personnel and 300 vehicles are at work turning the lights back on for Florida Power & Light customers in the aftermath of #HurricaneMilton. #Mutualassistance is a hallmark of the #utility industry. That’s why 400 workers from PG&E have joined with 50K other utility workers from 43 states and #Canada to help #restore power to 2M customers in #Florida who are in the dark after Hurricane #Milton. “We’ll do what we can to get the poles back up, put the lines back on them and get the lights back on for the people who need it.” – PG&E lineworker on restoring power in Florida after Hurricane Milton. At Pacific Gas and Electric Company, building resilience against #wildfires never stops and public-private #partnerships plus new #technology play an important role. PG&E recently hosted the first public test of BurnBot, Inc.’s #nextgen controlled burn machine (the RX2), which aims to harness the power of prescribed fire with #precision and #control for #wildfiremitigation and #ecosystem benefit. PG&E is exploring BurnBot’s #firetech solutions: ✅ Potential alternative to mowers in managing grassland, shrubs ✅ Creating fuel break lines in place of herbicides or dozers ✅ Manage invasive species, herbicide-resistant weeds around electric infrastructure The RX2 is designed to apply prescribed burns in a way that creates very little smoke and is highly controlled, allowing the use of ecological fire to treat potentially hazardous vegetation near critical infrastructure. Officials from Oakland Fire Department, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), California Air Resources Board, Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety, plus other emergency responders and stakeholders were onsite to witness the first test of the RX2.

For more than 50 years, Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Samahan (#FilipinoAmerican) Employee Resource Group (ERG) has promoted Filipino-American #culture and #heritage. It’s PG&E’s oldest ERG. The company’s 11 ERGs #support and #advance #diversityandinclusion to create an understanding that the company’s #success comes from many #voices, #skills and #experiences. One of the members of #Samahan is Nancy Cabrellis, a nearly 30-year PG&E #coworker whose parents worked for the company for a combined 60-plus years. “Lots of people don’t realize how deep the Filipino heritage is in this company,” said Nancy, who’s the group’s scholarship director. “I’m inspired to be part of a group that’s been around so long and to educate and increase awareness about their culture.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g5jS67AC #filipinoamericanheritagemonth #filipinoheritagemonth #filam #filamhistorymonth2024 #fahm #FilAmPride #Mabuhay #filipino #filipina #pinoy #pinay

Brad Carr has spent 23 years in a wheelchair. “My chair is old enough to have a drink,” he says. The manager of #gaspipeline #engineering and #design was paralyzed from the chest down due to a car accident. But his sense of #humor has helped his relationships with fellow #coworkers and #contractors. Thanks to his power wheelchair with tracks and accommodations by Pacific Gas and Electric Company to his workstation, Carr can effectively manage eight direct reports and 45 design engineers. October’s #DisabilityAwarenessMonth means a lot to him. “There’s a need to make allowances so people like me can participate on the job,” he says. #disabilityawareness #disabilitywork #disability #disabilityinclusion #deib

“Mutual aid is a hallmark of the utility industry,” says Angie Gibson, PG&E’s Vice President of Emergency Preparedness & Response. “Other utilities share the same customer focus that we have here at PG&E. When the chips are down, we start our crews and blue trucks rolling to help. And other companies do the same for us when we need assistance.” Pacific Gas and Electric Company has sent more than 400 #electric workers, support personnel and equipment to #Georgia to assist restoring power after devastating #HurricaneHelene. The crews will join Georgia Power Company utility workers and others from around #NorthAmerica in supporting the #restoration effort. The Edison Electric Institute, an electric-utility member organization, said on Tuesday that nearly 50,000 #electric workers from at least 40 states and #Canada are dedicated to the Hurricane Helene #response and #powerrestoration effort, making this one of the nation’s largest #mutualassistance mobilizations ever. In total, Helene impacted nearly 6 million electric #customers in 10 states. As of Wednesday afternoon, power has been restored to approximately 4.51 million customers—or 75.1 percent of customers, EEI said. “IBEW local 1245 is extremely proud that our members will be traveling to Georgia to assist in the restoration of power. Their willingness to help those facing the devastation of Hurricane Helene is selfless,” says Bob Gerstle, the union’s senior assistant business manager. PG&E has gotten support from Cal OES, Caltrans, California Highway Patrol, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), County of Yolo and the City of Davis to facilitate the rapid deployment of the #mutualaid effort. Peter Kenny, PG&E’s Senior Vice President of Electric Operations, says, “It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. I am so thankful for our PG&E coworkers – serving those in need in Georgia and those continuing to serve our hometowns here in California.”

With every mile of overhead powerline we move underground, we’re creating safer communities. In high fire-risk areas across our service territory, we’re increasing #wildfiresafety and energy #reliability for customers. Undergrounding is one of our multiple layers of wildfire protection and also reduces ongoing maintenance and tree trimming costs, providing lower long-term costs for #customers. See the work – and the impact – these infrastructure projects are delivering for the #hometowns we’re proud to serve. #DeliveringForOurHometowns #SeeOurProgress #YourEnergyDollarsatWork

Pacific Gas and Electric Company recently had nearly 50 #volunteers participate in Saluting Branches, billed as the “largest one-day volunteer event” in the #tree industry. The #coworker volunteers helped clean headstones, raked leaves and supported tree trimmers at #SanBruno’s Golden Gate and #Dixon’s Sacramento Valley National Cemeteries. The almost 50 volunteer group is the most PG&E had in its three years of participation in this annual event. “It’s important to come here and care for the grounds where those veterans have their final resting places,” said PG&E’s Christopher Maul.
