70% of new jobs insist on a bachelor's degree, but fewer than 50% of workers have one. Employers must shift away from making hiring decisions contingent on whether a candidate has a 4-year degree, and instead prioritize skill-based hiring to bridge the opportunity gap in our labor market. PJMF partner Opportunity@Work has coined the term "STARs," or workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes. These individuals bring diverse perspectives and experiences, and managers must work to challenge the systemic barriers put in place to create a more equitable workplace. With a recently announced $20MM investment from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving, Opportunity@Work is accelerating economic mobility for 70+ million STARs in the U.S. Learn more about Opportunity@Work's Reach for the STARs Report here and join us in advancing the future of work: https://buff.ly/4cIHdlP #EquitableWork #EqualOpportunity

So excited to have participated at the National Association of Public Sector Employees (NASPE) Annual Meeting on behalf of Opportunity@Work. I was able to connect with so many amazing state government leaders who are leading the way in skills based hiring and transforming the labor market to be inclusive of STARs. And what an honor to sit on a panel moderated by Nicole Tucker, MBA, CCP with Bob Lavigna, IPMA-HR SCP, Reid Walsh. The discussion gave much food for thought as we continue to #tearthepaperceiling and rewire the labor market for #STARs #HireSTARs #publicsector #stategovernments #workforcedevelopment
