🎉 Celebrating 4 Years of OpenEarth Foundation! 🎉 Tomorrow, we're proud to mark our 4th anniversary as an organization dedicated to pioneering digital infrastructure for planetary resilience. Over the years, we’ve worked tirelessly to create open-source solutions that tackle the climate crisis—and we’re just getting started! 🌍💡 One of our major initiatives, CityCatalyst, is driving transformative change in urban environments by harnessing the power of data to enable cities to take bold climate action. This initiative is supporting cities and regional governments in their decarbonization efforts as we found that many cities struggle to prepare accurate GHG inventories despite global efforts. A huge thank you to our incredible community of partners, supporters, and team members who’ve helped us achieve so much in such a short time. Together, we’re building a future where technology and transparency empower cities, citizens, and the planet. 🚀🌱 Here's to another year of impact, innovation, and global collaboration! https://lnkd.in/gqsBfUZj #OpenEarth #CityCatalyst #ClimateAction #DigitalTransformation

Open Earth Foundation reposted this
As the #I4C24 conference ends, Tue Damsø and I take with us countless inspiring ideas to support local climate action. We've also met many actors driving this change - here's hoping we can keep collaborating going forward! One of my takeaways from the last day of the conference is the rising focus on how appropriate #tools and #data can help municipalities develop emission inventories, map climate risks, prioritise climate interventions and monitor their implementation. Climate action planning is complex, and local actors often have very limited resources (especially in the Global South), so appropriate tools are essential to ease their burden. Some particularly interesting tools you should keep on your radar: - The new version of the Data Portal for Cities, developed for the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) by Michael Reuss and team, is now open for sign up! The Portal estimates emission inventories for cities and lets local users refine the inventories with their own data. - The City Catalyst tool from Open Earth Foundation also assists with emission inventories by pulling data from multiple sources, refining, transforming and aggregating it, and making it easily accessible for cities all with one interface. Open Earth is doing excellent work with #opensource tools for climate action! 👏 - We see a rise in #AI tools, which can assist with much of the early work in outline climate action plans, suggesting actions, etc. Language models could also be used to read and extract information from planning documents, lifting a considerably reporting burden from municipalities! This increased focus on tools comes with the awareness that bottom-up action and stakeholder involvement are absolutely essential - they can be supported and complemented by software, but never replaced!
#Innovate4cities has come to an end. We will be returning to Denmark and to working with municipalities on accelerating their climate action - with new inspiration from around the world. Overwhelming interest in our presentations of #DK2020 and the monitoring system for the Danish Climate Alliance - providing a strong basis for improved global collaboration around both. My greatest take away from the conference was on the IPCC special report on Cities and Climate Change. Many IPCC authors participated in the entire conference, putting great emphasis on the importance of including practitioner perspectives in the report, and ensuring that it has a real world impact on climate action in cities. We in CONCITO look forward to supporting this in any way we can.

Introducing the Playbook for "Place-based Transition Funds" - a blueprint to revolutionize climate finance and foster the climate transition, one community at a time. Developed in collaboration with The Peace Department and Metabolic as the outcome of an innovative Carbon Residency, the playbook aligns the climate transition plan of a whole geography with investable portfolios, and leverages systems thinking to ensure that every dollar invested combats climate change while fostering community resilience and economic uplift. Why it matters? ➜ Scale of Transition: We face an unprecedented pace of emissions reductions. This playbook offers a scalable, yet standardized method that transforms local actions into a global finance mechanisms. ➜ Market Rate Returns for Investors: Investors seeking viable returns can now participate in the climate solution. This playbook bridges that gap, transforming projects from high-risk bets into bankable opportunities using Loan Guarantee Funds. ➜ Empower Local Communities: The playbook aligns capital with local government plans, ensuring that the climate transition uplifts economies and lives. ➜ City Climate Transitions: OpenEarth's CityCatalyst platform supports cities and regions with updated emissions inventories and interoperability across their climate roadmap. The Place Based Transition Fund is the key finance piece at the end of this data driven planing. Thank you Kirsten Dunlop for your vision and leadership. It is a great pleasure and honor for the OpenEarth Foundation to be an active member of the Systemic Climate Action Collaborative, and change the paradigm among NGO collaboration to create transformative change towards a higher planetary resilience
Reflecting on an incredible week last week with fellow leaders of the Systemic Climate Action Collaborative, I am moved and inspired. We are committed to driving large-scale systems change to help build prosperous, inclusive, climate resilient societies. Societies where people and nature thrive; that capture the imagination, and generate hope. Representing a formidable alliance of 15 diverse partners working across six continents, we embody a cumulative global track record of over 250 years. Our coalition unites leading foundations, philanthropists, corporations, public institutions, and more, all poised to commit significant resources towards climate action and systemic transformation. We spent a week listening to one another, discovering what becomes possible as we bring our diverse capabilities together, challenging each other to look forward and wrestle with the poly-crisis we face, taking the time to build the conditions for radical and enduring collaboration. Learning what it means when the whole becomes bigger than the parts. This new chapter as a collaborative group fills me with energy and anticipation for the future. My optimism is fuelled by: - the calibre, wisdom, humility, and shared vision of each leader and their organizations. - the serendipitous, yet intentional, way in which we came together to bring our complementary capabilities to the fore. - the remarkable level of trust established, allowing us to share resources and reduce competition and fragmentation. I return energized, and I'm excited for what lies ahead. I know our collective impact will far exceed the sum of our individual contributions. More to come...
