Excerpt from Kamala Harris' Concession Speech: "The fight for our freedom will take hard work. But like I always say, we like hard work. Hard work is good work. Hard work can be joyful work. And the fight for our country is always worth it, it is always worth it. To the young people who are watching, it is—I love you—to the young people who are watching, it is okay to feel sad and disappointed, but please know it’s going to be okay. On the campaign, I would often say, “When we fight, we win.” But here’s the thing, here’s the thing—sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn’t mean we won’t win. That doesn’t mean we won’t win. The important thing is, don’t ever give up, don’t ever give up, don’t ever stop trying to make the world a better place. You have power, you have power, and don’t you ever listen when anyone tells you something is impossible because it has never been done before. You have the capacity to do extraordinary good in the world. And so, to everyone who is watching, do not despair. This is not a time to throw up our hands; this is a time to roll up our sleeves. This is a time to organize, to mobilize, and to stay engaged for the sake of freedom and justice and the future that we all know we can build together. Look, many of you know I started out as a prosecutor, and throughout my career, I saw people at some of the worst times in their lives—people who had suffered great harm and great pain, and yet found within themselves the strength and the courage and the resolve to take the stand, to take a stand, to fight for justice, to fight for themselves, to fight for others. So let their courage be our inspiration; let their determination be our charge. And I’ll close with this—there’s an adage, and a historian once called it a law of history, true of every society across the ages. The adage is, “Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.”"

Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, returning to the White House after securing key victories in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, bringing his electoral count to 277 (source: AP). His win, coupled with significant GOP gains in the Senate and multiple governorships, underscores a national shift toward conservative values. Trump's campaign resonated with voters focused on inflation, economic stability, and security, promising a new “golden age” for America. The GOP’s expanded control in Congress suggests a strengthened conservative legislative agenda. Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris brings renewed focus on economic and safety concerns across the country. Despite controversy from 2020, Trump returns to office as the first convicted felon elected to the presidency. Republican wins across the board point to an energized conservative base. This election highlights a pivotal moment in American politics.

Election results are coming in with Trump winning traditionally Republican states like Florida and Kentucky, while Harris has secured traditionally Democratic states like Maryland and Vermont. NBC News exit polls show voters prioritizing the state of democracy and the economy, with abortion and immigration also high on the list of concerns. Trump and his allies have cast doubt on the election process, echoing unverified claims of voter fraud from 2020. Control of Congress is at stake, with Republicans already flipping a Senate seat, and several key governor races and ballot measures are also being decided.

In a compelling piece titled Students at Black US colleges wield political power ahead of Election Day, Reuters masterfully blends the vibrancy of HBCU homecomings with the urgency of political mobilization. Through vivid storytelling and striking photography, the article brings to life the powerful role historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) play in shaping the political landscape. Nia Heaston, a 21-year-old student at North Carolina A&T State University, embodies the spirit of youthful activism. Reuters’ Kevin Mohatt and Kent J. Edwards capture this energy in their dynamic photos, while reporters Arriana McLymore, Bianca Flowers, and Allende Miglietta provide a rich narrative that connects cultural pride with political action. What stands out is how Reuters contextualizes the historical significance of HBCUs, blending past and present to show their evolving role in the fight for civil rights and political representation. By focusing on the voices and actions of students like Heaston, the article underscores the critical impact of youth engagement in shaping the future of democracy. As we stand on the brink of a potentially historic election, the nation finds itself at a pivotal crossroads. Today's vote is not just about electing a president; it’s about redefining America’s promise of equality, inclusivity, and justice.#ElectionDay

Twas the night before Election Day, and all through the land, The nation was stirring, every vote planned. The ballots were sorted with utmost care, In hopes that democracy soon would be there. The voters were nestled, snug in their beds, While visions of swing states danced in their heads. With Harris in her blazer, Trump in his cap, Both braced for the race, a political scrap. When out on the airwaves, there arose such a clatter, We tuned into newsrooms to see what’s the matter. The pundits were chattering, the headlines were bright, Predicting what might happen deep into the night. The polls, how they fluctuated, opinions did sway, We knew it would be close by the end of the day. With Georgia and Pennsylvania holding the key, Would it be blue or red? We’d have to see. Mail-in ballots, stacked high with care, Counting them all would take patience, not flair. With each passing hour, results would be known, As tensions and hopes in the nation had grown. “Now voters! Now counters! Now media and polls! On swing states! On pundits! Let’s reach the goals! To the halls of democracy! To the Capitol’s height! Let’s ensure every vote counts this very night!” As patience wore thin, and the night grew late, The country held on, embracing its fate. For democracy’s strength lies not in the speed, But in fairness and justice, a nation agreed. So as we await what tomorrow will bring, Let’s cherish the right to vote, and everything. For 'twas the night before Election Day, and all through the land, The people were ready, their future in hand. #OmegaForAction #YourVoteMatters
