Making communications work for everyone

About us

Ofcom is the UK's communications regulator. We make sure people get the best from their home phone and mobile services, as well as keeping an eye on TV, radio and on-demand content. We also ensure people don’t get scammed and are protected from bad practice. We also oversee the universal postal service, and the airwaves used by wireless devices. Right now, technology is changing how people work, interact and enjoy themselves. Much of our work is focused on making sure everybody has access to the communications technology they need and that competition can thrive.

We are banning mid-contract price rises linked to inflation for phone, broadband and pay-tv packages. From January 2025, UK phone, broadband and pay TV companies will no longer be able to link any mid-contract price rises to unpredictable and confusing changes to inflation. Under new Ofcom rules, customers will have to be told in pounds and pence any price rise written in a contract at the point of sale. Cristina Luna-Esteban, Ofcom Telecoms Policy Director, said: “We’re stepping in on behalf of phone, broadband and pay TV customers to stamp out this practice, so people can be certain of the price they will pay, compare deals more easily and take advantage of the competitive market we have in the UK.” Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ebhiguaA

📻 We have today directed the BBC to carry out a public interest test on its planned new Radio 2 stream on BBC Sounds, as we believe this may have a significant adverse impact on fair and effective competition. The BBC must now conduct a public interest test to assess whether the public value of the new Radio 2 service justifies the potential impact on competition. Extended Radio 1 and 3 streams, and changes to the existing Radio 1 Dance stream, can go ahead though. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eTG43b5a
