We recently had our quarterly All Hands Meeting in Munich, and we took this opportunity to organise a special Social Day. ☀️ On this day, all of our employees had the opportunity to get socially involved by helping out at either the Münchner Tafel food bank or the Munich animal shelter. It was really moving to see how our team put their heart and soul into their work. At the Münchner Tafel, we helped sort and distribute food and were able to see directly what a difference our help makes for people in need. At the Munich animal shelter, our team lovingly looked after the animals, cleaned their enclosures and helped with their daily care and feeding. Each of us had a lot of fun and experienced an unforgettable day. This experience not only brought us closer together as a team, but also showed us how valuable social commitment is. 👩🏻🤝👨🏼 For us as a company, it is important to look beyond our own horizons and make a positive contribution to society. Social commitment is an essential part of our corporate philosophy and is very close to our hearts. 🎉 50,000 screenings - what a milestone! 🎉 50,000 screenings means: 50,000 people who have undergone eye screening with us at one of our partner opticians. 10,700 people in whom we recognised abnormalities that need to be monitored further. 630 people who had such serious abnormalities that they were recommended to see an ophthalmologist immediately for further treatment. Without our service, many of these cases would have remained unrecognised for a long time and, in the worst case, could have led to vision loss. We are incredibly proud of this milestone, which we have achieved with our partners such as Fielmann Group, Delker Optik, 1-2-3 Brille, LoQu Optical Group GmbH and many more. It underlines our mission: to protect the eyesight of our fellow human beings through low-threshold access to eye care. Many people don`t! 👀 According to an analysis of AOK Baden-Württemberg insurance data from 2016, only around 25% of their insurance participants have seen an ophthalmologist 🤯 This is despite the fact that 75% of all visual impairments and blindness could have been prevented by early detection and appropriate measures. Why do we need preventive eye care? 👩🏻🤝👨🏼 Here is an example from one of our customers: Hans, a 69-year-old man, visits his local optician to buy a new pair of glasses. During the visit, he is offered an ocumeda eye check-up. Hans has not been to the optician for 10 years and has no complaints about his eyes. Nevertheless, he is interested and accepts the offer. Two days later, Hans receives the results - there are abnormalities that Hans had not noticed before. Accumulations of fluid due to an epiretinal membrane were discovered in his right eye. An epiretinal membrane is a thin membrane that grows on the surface of the retina and can lead to distorted vision and reading difficulties. In severe cases, surgery is recommended to remove the membrane. And how is Hans doing today? 👀 He is now under going treatment. Thanks to early detection by ocumeda, his treatment was initiated in good time and Hans was able to avoid any loss of vision. "My optician told me that it was high time.
