With news of New England’s largest offshore wind selection to date — a thrilling 2,878 MW total — the hundreds of supply chain jobs that will be sustained or created as a result are starting to come into focus.  The three new projects selected by Massachusetts and Rhode Island have single-handedly expanded the pipeline of opportunities, promising more economic and environmental benefits to local communities and the broader industry.  As we embark on this next chapter of offshore wind for New England, let’s take a look at the jobs and investments already in place, and how the industry is tracking them.

#BreakingNews Today, the latest offshore wind procurement round in New England came to conclusion. Massachusetts and Rhode Island awarded contracts to #OceanticMember companies Avangrid, OW Ocean Winds, and Vineyard Offshore, resulting in the largest offshore wind procurement in New England history. Three projects received contracts from the state: New England Wind 1 (Avangrid), SouthCoast Wind (Ocean Winds), and Vineyard Wind 2. Collectively, these projects will deliver 2,878 MW of clean energy to Massachusetts and Rhode Island, enough to power over 1.5 million homes. #BreakingNews US Wind, Inc has received approval on the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) of Maryland’s first offshore wind project. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) released its Record of Decision (ROD) authorizing construction of up to 114 turbines, enough to power 770,000 homes. The proposed project has plans to build an offshore wind turbine foundation facility in Baltimore Harbor, which, when fully operational, would employ up to 530 people. The project will also make significant progress towards Maryland’s offshore wind goal of 8,500 MW by 2031. Congratulations to #OceanticMember U.S. Wind! #IndustryNews Last week, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced an offshore wind lease sale off the Oregon Coast. BOEM issued the Final Sale Notice (FSN) for an October 15 auction of the areas, which total nearly 200,000 acres, enough space to construct 3.1 GW of offshore wind power generation. Both areas will also utilize floating wind technology. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g3Dxcuf7

There’s no offshore wind industry in America without U.S. labor unions. For over 100 years unions have been the steadfast backbone of our country — building, manufacturing, and sustaining our cities, infrastructure, national defenses, and more. At Oceantic Network, we stand alongside unions, proud to witness this incredible tradition continue with offshore wind development. Today, hundreds of skilled workers are constructing critical wind turbine components, preparing sites for factories, digging cable routes, or working offshore installing monopiles — challenging work that injects economic and clean energy benefits into local communities. It’s a future that unions are honored to help shape. We heard this first-hand over the past several months on our U.S. Offshore Wind Jobs Tour. We spoke with laborers excited to learn new skills, ironworkers proud to be using American-made steel, and others inspired by participating in this new chapter of U.S. manufacturing. They know offshore wind equals opportunity, good paying jobs, and stronger communities. On this Labor Day, we thank and honor our nation’s unions for their hard work and dedication, but especially past and present members of the Oceantic Network for lifting up our new American industry — both internationals and locals, we are grateful for your support. - American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) - International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) - International Brotherhood of Boilermakers (IBB) - International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) - International Union of Electrical Workers/Communication Workers of America (IUE-CWA) - International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) - International Union of Painters and Allied Trades/International Finishing Trades Institute (IUPAT) - Ironworkers International Union - Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust/Laborers’ International Union of North America (LECET-LIUNA) - National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) - United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners (UBC) - United Steelworkers (USW) Offshore wind is putting America to work, and our unions are the workforce making it happen.
