📰 Offshore wind creates job opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico 📰 Hear from #OceanticMember Metal Shark Boats, a shipyard in Franklin, Louisiana, that is building a CTV to ferry offshore wind maintenance technicians around projects along America's East Coast. Nate Geiger, the company president, is ready to build more vessels to service the offshore wind industry, "The capacity is here and everyone’s just waiting for the orders,” he says. "“My perspective and most of the folks I employ are excited about being a part of something that could be good for the environment and is good business. Everyone’s making money and it’s the right thing to do." This is a great example of #OSWatWork creating American jobs! 👏 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gbdG4h-B

🏆 Our CEO Liz Burdock was honored as the 2024 Mass Maritime Person of the Year on Saturday! The Emery Rice Medal from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) honors a civilian or military leader with a distinguished career of excellence, innovation, and service to the maritime industries and other related industries. The event took place on the MMA campus and was the first time a civilian woman has been honored with the award! “We are thrilled to present the Emery Rice Medal to Liz Burdock, recognizing her remarkable impact on the offshore wind industry as she is embodiment of the core values we instill at the Academy – leadership, integrity, business acumen, and a deep respect for the ocean,” said Rear Admiral Francis X. McDonald, USMS, president of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Congratulations Liz, the #OceanticTeam is so proud of you! 🎉

Last week, Oceantic's Julia Gerringer, Regional Policy Director, attended the Making Energy Work Conference hosted by the NC Sustainable Energy Association. It was an excellent chance to engage with stakeholders from the Carolinas and the broader Southeast region. NCSEA convened leaders to discuss critical topics like clean energy adoption, grid resilience, and innovative solutions for a sustainable future. These conversations felt especially timely in light of the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in Western NC. It was a good reminder of the strength of the NC community, which consistently rallies after disasters to restore power and push forward discussions on building a more resilient energy infrastructure. Thank you, NCSEA, for fostering these essential dialogues that will shape the future of energy in our region. We look forward to continuing this momentum! #MEW2024 #CleanEnergy #SoutheastEnergy

Bureau of Ocean Energy Management concluded its first ever offshore wind lease in the Gulf of Maine -- and the second largest offshore wind lease in the U.S. It awarded 4 total leases to #OceanticMember companies Avangrid and Invenergy. The combined lease areas amount to over 400,000 acres and are estimated to generate 6.8 GW, enough to power 2.3 million U.S. homes and businesses. These lease areas will be supported by a thriving network of offshore wind port and supply chain facilities that now spans 39 states, the result of over $22 billion in investment since 2020. The projects developed in the Gulf of Maine will drive even more investment to the region, delivering new jobs and increasing local economic activity. Oceantic CEO Liz Burdock said, “Today’s auction demonstrates that offshore wind will continue to play a leading role in the Northeast’s energy future. These lease areas will deliver well-paying, local jobs, and drive significant investment in manufacturing facilities, ports, and transmission development. Despite the general uncertainty around the upcoming presidential election, this is a vote of confidence for an American industry that has already received nearly $3 billion of new supply chain investment in the first nine months of 2024..." Last week Oceantic Network team members Bettina Geissbuehler and Ester Wensink attended Brazil Windpower in São Paulo together with #OceanticMember company BW Research Partnership Inc . During the conference we had the opportunity to learn more about the status of the Brazilian offshore wind market, connect with local companies and government officials, and opportunities for U.S. companies. Additionally, our group sponsored a networking event at the U.S. Consul General’s home in São Paulo. More than 50 high-level attendees from local suppliers, government officials, and various Brazilian state officials, attended, where we chatted about collaboration opportunities between U.S. and Brazilian companies as we work to grow the global industry and supply chain, sampled delicious food like pão de queijo (cheese bread), and talked about stoically enduring São Paulo traffic – traffic and weather, the universal topics! #offshorewind #globalgatewayOSW #brazil #BWP24
