Upskilling and reskilling are new-age slang for the long-standing corporate training industry. Companies invest billions annually in workforce development programs that improve employee well-being by teaching new technologies, sharpening soft skills like decision-making and problem-solving and engaging high performers with educational opportunities. While HR departments at companies of all sizes undoubtedly understand the value of support services and job training associated with workforce development, few actually track the outcomes of these initiatives, and even fewer track the ROI. What does it mean to own a work of art? One might think, a painting or a sculpture is mine, and I can do with it what I want. But not really. If the artwork is of “recognized stature,” I cannot destroy it or alter it in some way without fear of being sued by the artist, largely as the result of the federal Visual Artists Rights Act of 1990. If the artwork is damaged in some way or restored poorly, the artist may disavow the piece, effectively draining it of all value so that I would have a difficult, if not impossible, time selling it. In a way, owning a piece of notable art legally means sharing it with the artist. But there’s more. To even purchase the artwork, I may have to accept restrictions on my right to sell it. We’re excited to share that Observer reporter Alexandra Tremayne-Pengelly has been honored with an American Society of Journalists and Authors award in the Profiles category for her outstanding piece, “Craig Newmark of Craigslist Has a New Mission: Saving Democracy.” Alexandra’s insightful profile of Craig Newmark, the founder of Craigslist, captures how the tech entrepreneur is turning his efforts and fortune toward revolutionizing society. Through Craig Newmark Philanthropies, he has channeled millions of dollars to organizations working to promote trustworthy journalism, strengthen cyber civil defense and raise up veterans. “The company needed my help less and less, and I became progressively useless,” Newmark told Observer. “I found I could do more, and more good, for people by focusing on philanthropy.” Read the full profile here: https://lnkd.in/gziz8Uvq

The streaming industry has entered its adolescence, and while Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have established themselves as global frontrunners, a host of other services, including Disney+, Hulu and Apple TV+, are competing fiercely for market share. Apple TV+ ranks an impressive third among the eight major streaming services in U.S. audience demand share for streaming originals (8.4 percent), according to Parrot Analytics. Though Apple TV+ may not be the most popular streaming service yet, it's increasingly crucial to Apple's overarching media strategy. Despite all the astonishing advancements in medicine in the U.S. in recent years, policymakers and healthcare providers have yet to come up with a comprehensive solution for addressing rural healthcare—and as a result, millions of Americans across vast stretches of the country continue to be underserved. Rural medicine has consistently lagged behind the rest of the U.S. healthcare system due to a complex array of factors spanning socioeconomics, access to technology and connectivity, availability of qualified personnel, properly aligned financial incentives, and finally, stifling over-regulation and bureaucracy. But other countries—some of them with even far more challenging rural or remote populations—are proving that with the proper mix of innovation, technology and the ability to cut through red tape, a lot more can be done. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, passed by Congress in 2021, includes up to $7 billion to fund a Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs Program. The U.S. Department of Energy, the program’s administrator, states that its goal is to facilitate the creation of “large-scale, commercially viable hydrogen ecosystems.” There is reason to believe that the Hubs concept will translate into the holy grail of “commercial viability” for green hydrogen. The key idea is that of the “cluster.” Read more on how economic clusters can drive innovation, cut costs and accelerate green hydrogen adoption across the country: https://lnkd.in/ebxR9Cbh By Steve Crolius, Carbon-Neutral Consulting

When most people think of Aston Martin, they think of James Bond in a sleek silver sports car zipping through the tight and winding streets of an international city in pursuit of a bad guy. While that’s certainly part of the luxury automaker’s mythology, the modern Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd (the corporate name) is about much more than how to make a martini (shaken, not stirred), and the company has managed to broaden its high-end appeal thanks to a popular SUV known as the DBX.
