Recently, Commissioner Ann Erickson Gault (District 3) was a guest speaker at the renaming celebration of the Hazel Park post office to the Roy Dickens Post Office in memorial of Hazel Park’s longest serving public official. He served as a police officer for 30 years and subsequently, 15 years as a court officer.    #OaklandCounty #HazelPark

At the July 18 Board meeting, commissioners approved a resolution to allow a millage proposal in support of Oakland County Parks and Recreation on the November ballot. Voters will have a voice in deciding whether or not to approve funding that would allow free access to county parks, expand the park system to more areas of the county and more.     Read more about the proposed millage at bit.ly/2024_Millage.

Weipert (District 13, right) attended the Festival of Flight at the Oakland County International Airport this past weekend. They joined retired airport executive J. Approving the county’s budget of more than $1 billion is one of the main responsibilities of the Board of Commissioners. To review these planned expenses, the Board holds budget hearings with county department leaders. The hearings for the 2025-2027 triennial budget will begin next week – August 13-15 from 1-5 p.m. each day. Commissioner Penny Luebs (District 2, fourth from right) joined the Troy Chamber of Commerce at the recent ribbon cutting of The James Clinic in Troy. With three additional locations across the country, the clinic provides concierge medical offerings that blend traditional, functional and regenerative treatments.  

Commissioner Bob Hoffman (District 7) recently joined the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce at the grand opening of a new ice cream shop on the Cook's Farm Dairy property. Established in 1933, Cook’s is Oakland County’s only working dairy farm. Commissioner Hoffman wished fourth-generation owner Quinton Cook and his family much success with this new business expansion.     #OaklandCounty #CommittedCommissioners #IceCream 

At the August 1 Board meeting, Commissioner Yolanda Smith Charles (District 17, second from left), joined by Chair David T. Woodward (District 1, left) and Commissioners Linnie Taylor (District 18, second from right) and Angela Powell (District 10, right), presented a proclamation to Paula 'Elle' Tutman in celebration of her retirement from WDIV Local 4 News/ClickOnDetroit.     With a multi-Emmy-winning career as a broadcast journalist, her career spanned more than 42 years. Paula is best known locally as a specialty correspondent and Michigan Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame inductee, but she is also the founder and chair emeritus of Children’s ToothFairy Foundation, a nonprofit which provided free dental care to underserved children in Michigan, and entrepreneur.     The Board congratulates her on a well-deserved retirement.     Watch the proclamation presentation here >> bit.ly/3LNacJJ. 

Nativity Episcopal Church is hosting a gun buyback and destruction event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on August 3 in Bloomfield Township. There, unwanted firearms will be deconstructed and turned into art. Attendees can receive gift cards in exchange for their unwanted weapons.     This event is a part of a community-led expansion of the Board’s Gun Buyback Pilot Program held in late 2022, which demonstrated the Board’s continued commitment to reducing gun violence in the community by providing a safe and legal way for residents to dispose of firearms they no longer wish to keep.      Additional events will be held in Oakland County on September 28 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pontiac and October 5 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Waterford Township.    Read more >> bit.ly/4cbqarw
