The New York Transit Museum is dedicated to telling & preserving stories of mass transportation in NYC and the region.
About us
The New York Transit Museum, one of the city's leading cultural institutions is the largest museum in the United States devoted to urban public transportation history, and one of the premier institutions of its kind in the world. The Museum explores the development of the greater New York Metropolitan region through the presentations of exhibitions, tours, educational programs, and workshops dealing with the cultural, social, and technological history of public transportation. Since its inception in 1976, the Museum, housed in a historic 1936 IND subway station in Brooklyn Heights, has grown in scope and popularity. As custodian and interpreter of the region's extensive public transportation networks, the Museum strives to share, through its public programs, this rich and vibrant history with local, regional, and international audiences.

Strengths-based and interests-honoring at its best! 🌟 Here are just some of the many, many highlights from this week co-facilitating Transit Quest—a summer camp for neurodivergent teens who are passionate about trains and transit at the New York Transit Museum. The 20 young folks connected and joked and debated and had a blast because an environment was created for them that was socially safe and sensorily supported, where they could engage in their area of interest and expertise with others. So whether you think the R211 is revolutionary subway model... or breakdown-ridden hype, everyone has a place at Transit Quest. Big thanks to NYTM and the other kind, committed, creative facilitators... and to the awesome teens ❤️
