The State Council of Parks, the statewide advisory body to our park and historic site system, held its annual fall meeting at Bear Mountain to reflect on the Parks Centennial and hear from stakeholders on how to shape the future of the system. The group preserved generations of personal and institutional memories through the Share Your Story project, screened the WMHT “From Land to Legacy” documentary, and heard a special presentation from our historian.

Jay Heritage Center in Rye, one of the incredible historic sites in our park system, is host to a remarkable outdoor wire sculpture exhibit. Created by acclaimed artist Kristine Mays, the exhibit celebrates and memorializes the spirts of enslaved people. Our latest blog post gives you a look at the New York State debut of “Rich Soil.” https://ow.ly/M1fj50TBwhT

Through the use of grant funding in collaboration with Parks & Trails New York the Chittenango Canal Boat Museum recently made significant renovations to their replica Canal Store building and cut the ribbon on the newly-improved space. Using a $146,000 grant award, the museum was able to winterize the building, construct a new program area, and expand access to the site with ADA-compliant walkways. Everyday, New York State Parks is working with our community partners to enhance the visiting experience at New York’s parks, trails, and historic places.
