For tonight's annual Polk County Women Attorneys basket auction to benefit the Young Women's Resource Center, we filled the Nyemaster basket with a treasure trove of items for new moms-to-be, including a diaper bag, feeding pillow, sound machine, creams, diapers, books, and the much coveted Nyemaster onesie. The theme is particularly timely as a number of our attorneys and staff are expecting new additions in the weeks ahead!

Q – What do you get when you pack a room full of lawyers to learn about artificial intelligence? A – The catchy little ditty below! 🎵🎙 Last month Nyemaster attorney Ryan Carter spoke on artificial intelligence to the Blackhawk Country Bar Association. As part of his remarks, Ryan, a part time musician, turned to music to demonstrate the power of AI. He went to Udio and used the following prompt: “A song about a group of lawyers, sitting in a room learning about artificial intelligence. Please make the song have a modern country feel. Make reference to Cedar Falls, Iowa and cornfields seeing about lawyers being awesome.” Hear the result below. Don’t think it’ll win a Grammy, but it also won’t leave your head right away! https://lnkd.in/ggizffiX

Law.com recently spoke with Nyemaster’s Frances Haas about the EEOC’s increased scrutiny of internal investigations. Among the points Fran makes in the article is the importance of HR professionals in conducting these investigations. She warns that “a lot of HR professionals develop their skills over time, just like any professional, and the EEOC is saying it's not enough to just have done this many times–you have to have specific training." To address this need for proper training Fran and Mary Funk will be hosting a special internal investigator training workshop on Novebmer 20. More details are here: https://lnkd.in/gTQSWR73
As the EEOC begins to scrutinize internal investigations into workplace harassment, employment lawyers advise employers should buckle up. Reporter Charles Toutant spoke with outside counsel to find out more about what's coming and their perspectives on it. Sharing their views were Frances Haas, an employment lawyer at Nyemaster Goode in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kelly Bird, a labor and employment lawyer at Gibbons in Newark; and Paul Scheck, an employment lawyer at Shutts & Bowen in Orlando. The newly articulated standards for employers looking into harassment allegations were contained in a guide on workplace harassment that was issued in April, but some employment lawyers said the report's references to investigation standards drew little notice amid attention focusing on parts of the report that discuss abortion and LGBTQ issues. The EEOC has heightened internal investigator standards and qualifications for all forms of harassment investigations. Make sure you receive the training required to satisfy the EEOC’s expectations. Nyemaster attorneys Frances Haas and Mary Funk will be offering a three hour, in-person training workshop designed for human resources professionals and in-house counsel who conduct or oversee an organization’s internal investigations.
