With this new $15 million grant from U.S. Department of Transportation we will take a monumental step forward in our mission to build a cleaner, more sustainable New York City. DCAS currently manages the largest charging network in New York State, with more than 2,080 ports and growing. Even more, the agency operates 159 solar carports, which produce 100% of their electric energy free from the grid, and supports the City’s fleet of over 5,200 electric fleet vehicles. The recently announced grant from US DOT will enable an expansion of this solar network to 39 additional sites. In addition to these new sites, the DCAS charging network currently includes 21 sites that are open to the general public and are used nearly 8,000 times each month. Over 58% of DCAS chargers are located in environmental justice communities today, and this grant will further that investment. By prioritizing curbside EV chargers in disadvantaged and low-income neighborhoods, we are ensuring that the benefits of green technology reach every corner of our city. https://lnkd.in/erNvFqw9

Commissioner Molina had the privilege of giving his thanks to our fleet interns for all their hard work this summer at the CTE Automotive High School Internship Event and Luncheon. The internship program has hosted 470 students since 2015. Many students have become auto service workers, auto mechanics, or other positions within city government. The program provides early hands-on work experience for students, promotes safety and sustainability, and pathways to employment with the city, especially through the auto service worker title. This event is organized and supported by DCAS in cooperation with NYPD, FDNY, DOT, Parks, and DSNY. Today, the NAFA Fleet Management Association awarded DCAS their main honor, Top Green Fleet of 2024, at the Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference & Expo in Durham, NC, where industry professionals gathered to discuss trends, technologies and practices shaping sustainable fleet management. The awards reflect the agency's outstanding efforts in reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability within its fleet operations. Electrification has been a cornerstone of New York City's strategy to green its fleet. Earlier this year, DCAS announced the City’s 5,000th electric vehicle and the installation of its 2,000th electric charger. Through a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, equaling cleaner air in the city, this effort is in direct service to making New York City more livable for New Yorkers.
