🌟 Celebrating the Faces Behind DNP & NP Success 🌟 We just wrapped up National DNP Week, and while it's essential to honor our dedicated professors, it’s also vital to shine a spotlight on leaders like Charles Owens III, M.Ed who ensure NP/DNP programs truly thrive! 🎉 Charles, with his project management expertise, has seamlessly coordinated 100+ clinical placements at Florida Atlantic University, a testament to his dedication to student success and empathy-driven leadership. Charles’s approach is inspiring, combining high-level organizational skills with a deeply personal touch. As a former principal, he brings a rare perspective—one that balances structure with compassion. When asked his secret to success, he shared that empathy is key, and credits University of West Florida for preparing him to excel at FAU. 👀 Charles is hands-on: he doesn’t just manage placements; he shadows students and preceptors, gaining a front-row view of both challenges and opportunities in clinical education. This insight enables him to make thoughtful improvements to the program, ensuring students meet their goals and preceptors feel fully supported. In Charles's words: "For the right clinical experience, I prep not only students but also preceptors to ensure they meet course objectives and understand expectations." 📚 This dual support system creates a meaningful, two-way dialogue that benefits everyone involved. This is truly an inspiring example for us NPHub and NPHire. FAU students and faculty are lucky to have Charles’s guiding hand and empathy-driven approach! We need more leaders who embody this level of dedication, helping future NPs not just complete their hours but thrive in them. 👏 Thank you, Charles, for your incredible impact on NP education! #DNPsDNPsDNPs of Color #AmericanAmericanAmerican Association of Nurse Practitioners

Celebrating Filipino American Heritage Month: Honoring Dr. Fidelindo Lim’s Legacy in U.S. Healthcare In honor of Filipino American Heritage Month, we celebrate the incredible journey of Dr. Fidelindo Lim, CCRN, DNP, FAAN, a Filipino-American nurse leader and educator. He is also the Program Director of Nursing Education at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Dr. Lim's story is one of resilience, service, and dedication, which began at the young age of 19 when he left the Philippines to work as staff nurse in New York City at the height of the AIDS crisis. Dr. Lim is a proud graduate of Far Eastern University in Manila, where his nursing journey began. At just 19 years old, with a dream and a sense of duty, he packed his bags and boarded a plane to the U.S., landing in JFK international airport (via Alaska) with only $60 in his pocket and a determination to excel in nursing at the bedside. His first assignment at Cabrini Medical Center, one of New York City’s AIDS hospitals, was a baptism by fire. He found himself working with patients grappling with a then-mysterious and stigmatized illness. His bravery and dedication reflect the long-standing contributions of Filipino nurses, who have supported the U.S. healthcare system through every crisis—well before COVID-19. Dr. Lim’s experiences in public health shaped his views on nursing, and one of his notable quotes continues to resonate with me: “The bedpan is as important as the stethoscope.” This powerful metaphor emphasizes the essence of nursing—no task is too small if it contributes to a patient's well-being. As someone who also started as a CNA and home health aide, I completely agree. Dr. Lim's insights remind us that caregiving, in its simplest forms, is the heart of nursing. This perspective is essential for shaping the next generation of nurses. For over 28 years, Lim has been teaching at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, where he also shares his story about the vital role that Filipino nurses play, not only in pandemic response but in healthcare crises dating back decades. His personal and professional journey highlights how storytelling and history can shape professional identity and strengthen the resolve of healthcare professionals. I will definitely share this with my teams NPHub and NPHire because this reminds us of our "why" in healthcare. Let’s take a moment to celebrate Dr. Lim and the countless Filipino nurses like him, who have been at the forefront of every health crisis, serving with compassion and strength. Their contributions are invaluable, and their legacies are woven into the fabric of U.S. healthcare. Thank you, Dr. Lim, for inspiring us with your journey, and for reminding us that Filipino nurses have always been there—long before and long after the pandemic. #FilipinoAmericanHeritageMonth #NursingLeadership #HealthcareHeroes #AIDSepidemic #Nursing #PNAA #AmericanAmericanAmerican Nurses Association #AmericanAmericanAmerican Nurses Credentialing Center

Countdown continues…..9 more days until the big day! October is Filipino American History Month. ANCC is thrilled to make “Nurse Unseen” available to all attendees. "Nurse Unseen", produced and directed by Carlo Velayo and Michele Josue, is a documentary that highlights the often unseen and unsung Filipino nurses who have and continue to make significant contributions to healthcare worldwide. On behalf of this community, I am extremely grateful to the American Nurses Association and American Nurses Credentialing Center for finding opportunities to educate, innovate, and celebrate ALL nurses who keep our patients safe. I’m equally ecstatic to share that for the first time, the PNAA will have a booth at the conference. Please stop by and say hi to Carlo, Michele, Manny Ramos, and Marlon Garzo Saria. NP schools be like: 'Good luck finding a preceptor! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The truth is that every NP student has asked themselves: 'Why the heck don't our programs provide preceptors?' And we get it: you’re left with this overwhelming, daunting task that feels nearly impossible. However, you need to understand… It's not that your school doesn't care. They're not evil masterminds cackling over your struggle. The truth? They simply can't. Here's why: 1. Resource Crunch: Schools lack the staff and budget to manage placements for every student. 2. Geographic Gymnastics: With students spread across states, coordinating local placements is a logistical nightmare. 3. Preceptor Shortage: There are more NP students than willing preceptors. So, future NPs, it's not you, it's not (entirely) them. It's just... complicated. But let's be real - this situation is far from ideal. You're juggling full-time work, coursework, and life responsibilities while hunting for that elusive preceptor. It's exhausting, frustrating, and can make you question your career choice. But don't throw in the towel just yet! We’re here to help lighten the load. 💪 Comment “EMAIL” below, and we’ll send exclusive insights to your inbox to help make your clinical placement and NP journey smoother. 🌟 #NPLife #Nursing #NursePractitioner #NPHub
